Nvidia preparing new Geforce with GK110

Joe public does not care who has the top card.

Very true.

Joe public buys on brand name recognition.

Totally off the mark, ask Joe public what's in his PC and 99/100, the answer is er,,,, em,,,, er,,, it's got 1Tb memory....

They don't have a clue, that's what all the daft stickers on gpu's and price points are for.

The worrying thing about Joe public for me is though, they are losing interest in PC's at an alarming rate and going the laptop route instead as it's too expensive these days.

Yes, but still more people know the Intel and Nvidia brandname and buy computers asking for those things. They don't have a clue what they are but they have heard of them.

I seriously can't see any more performance from GK110 but would love to be proven wrong. I am also bored of this gens milking with both Nvidia and AMD rebranding. About time they were working hard on 20nm instead of these rehashes.

Atleast for nVidia 20nm now is pretty much just waiting on volume production at TSMC. Not really sure where AMD is on that but I suspect likewise they are mostly just waiting on production availability.

EDIT: If the rumours are true (and Charlie's rather cryptic post seems to potentially back it up) then it looks like nVidia have brought the GTX680 replacement* forward but pushed the full fat card back (possibly hoping to get it onto 16nm).

* By which I mean a ritzed up mid-range card masquerading as a high end card.

They're probably hard at work but 20nm slots will not be available until 2H 2014 according to most sources. I think they are able to run test wafers currently.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll get any major news for a while.

I reckon this is it to. If it isn't it will be the first generation in a long line that hasn't produced a dual GPU counterpart. It doesn't make sense to release a Titan Ultra on the basis it's just a fully unlocked GK110.

Will GTX 780i replace GTX 780 ?.

Could it be nVidia is purposely making the GTX780i with fewer shader units and already pre-oc'ed to make the OC potential lesser and create a bigger gap up to the GTX Titan Ultra due to the lack of shaders ?

If there is a card dubbed Titan Ultra, and it is simply a fully unlocked GK110 single GPU card. I will eat my trousers. It will either be simply improved mid ranged offerings, or a Dual GPU GK110
