Nvidia quietly enabled DirectX 12 support for Fermi Geforce 400/500 series GPUs!

Well I've had to downgrade anyway with these drivers as WatchDogs 2 doesn't launch.

It seemed the driver was not caused Watchdog 2 to crashed from launch, a guy found Ansel was caused it to crashed from launch, he posted workaround to get Watchdog 2 worked with driver 384.76 on Ubisoft forum:

FIXED

The crash is caused by the NVIDA Ansel

C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\Tools
RUN NvCameraConfiguration then disable

The game will then run with the new update

Nvidia should have hotfix next week with Ansel update.
 
Is there some fix i need to do to get netflix working @4k LMFAO......

does not seem to work with my 1080ti`s..... desktop is running @ 3840x2160 and netflix through the windows store app or microsoft edge shows no 4k

You need Windows 10 Creator Update version 1703 to get Netflix 4K HDR working properly. If you on either Windows 10 RTM version 1507, November Update version 1511 or Anniversary Update version 1607 will not worked so you will need to upgrade to Creator Update version 1703.

I wouldn't get your hopes up as when nvidia made the same announcement before about dx 12 support being added in their drivers, the cards were still **** at it, the improvements that some review site saw with that update came from previous driver updates and game patches :p

Since posted this thread, I was searched for Fermi DirectX 12 benchmarks for 3 days and finally found some benchmarks.

GTX 580 tested with Timespy and Battlefield 1

89.1fps at 720p Medium is impressive, been searched for Gears of War 4 720p medium results on youtube found GTX 950 ran at around 50fps. GTX 580 probably as fast as Radeon 7950 or 7970 in Gears of War 4 1080p Ultra.

You understand he means for Fermi, your card already had DX12 support and that hasn't changed, Fermi didn't have DX12 support, though it still really doesn't. DX12 feature level 11_0 is effectively DX11 running under the DX12 runtime so devs can not bother checking and testing that a game would run with DX11 as well as 12.

Most of the important DX12 stuff comes with feature level 12_0, even 11_1 has a couple of extras. Nvidia finally getting around to DX12 support at it's lowest level for Fermi now suggests one thing to me, massive performance hit in Battlefield on a 580 adding to this belief, Nvidia made a software work around to support one last feature to work with DX12 drivers at the lowest feature level. My guess is devs said to Nvidia recently they are going to start releasing games with only a DX12 .exe, with no official support for DX11 so for Nvidia to have Fermi still work in these games they need to support a DX12 driver even if the hardware can't cope.

That Battlefield benchmark shows a what 25% or more drop in performance in min/max/average, in 3dmark the 580 has 1/4 of the performance of a 1070 in DX11 but 1/8th the performance in DX12. This is not a 'DX12 card', DX12 hurts performance significantly on the 580, this certainly implies software work around to get the DX12 driver working.

Interesting they managed it, but 2 years late, kills performance and Nvidia didn't bother till now all implies they are somewhat being forced to provide the support. It does signal a good thing though, if it means certain game devs are focusing exclusively on DX12 we'll get better optimised games on engines built for DX12.

Also in other news, Nvidia upgraded Maxwell V1, Maxwell V2 and Pascal's DirectX 12 Resource Binding from Tier 2 to Tier 3 as well as Netflix 4K support in 384.76 driver. :)

Anyone here got Geforce 400/500 GPUs finally can enjoy playing DirectX 12 games for first time after install 384.76 driver.

It incredible Fermi was launched back in April 2010, that is now over 7 years old finally got DirectX 12 support now. Very unfortunately Radeon HD 5000 series launched back in September 2009, Radeon 6000 series launched back in October 2010, Radeon 7000 series launched back in 2012 and Radeon 8000 series launched back in 2013 based on Terascale architecture did not supported DirectX 12, only just GCN GPUs full supported DirectX 12.

Wait, what about the Tesla based Geforce 405, launched in 2011?

Yup pretty much DM, from what I've seen on nvidia reddit etc. dx 12 stuff works now (as in, it is at least able to run dx 12) but they are still awful at it i.e. performance is still worse than dx 11.....

Given the xbox 1 x, it certainly looks like we will start to see a lot more dx 12 and very possibly, only dx 12 for some titles.... Although I wouldn't be surprised if we see an updated version of dx 12 within the next year....

All I know is that these drivers have given me an fps boost and I'm muchos grateful for it (locks at 100fps now whereas before it would be in the 90 range, PG348Q) :D

Its pretty much a given that there is some software assistance going on Fermi lacks the hardware scheduling for mixed mode compute, etc. it can only despatch 1 proper compute queue at a time with a lot of issues with concurrent kernels - they are probably using some horrid hack of inserting signals regularly to poll back to the driver at regular intervals which horrendously hits efficiency.

Would be interesting to see how the same GPU fared on something like a dual channel, consumer i7 CPU and the closest equivalent -e variant with quad channel memory, etc.
 

Guy from Budget Build bought cheapest 7 years old EVGA GTX 465 1GB for £10 to tested DirectX 11 and 12 games. It surprised playable in all DirectX 12 games.

Halo 5: Forge DirectX 12 720p Low 33fps Average and 19fps Minimum.

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex DirectX 12 768p Low 32fps Average and 22fps Minimum.

Civilization VI DirectX 12 1080p Medium/High? 87fps Average and 68fps Minimum.

Hitman DirectX 12 720p Low 25fps Average and 17fps Minimum.

GTA V DirectX 11 1080p High, Texture on Normal 48fps Average and 34fps Minimum.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive DirectX 11 1080p Medium/High 106fps Average and 70fps Minimum.

Battlefield 4 DirectX 11 1080p Medium 35fps Average and 28fps Minimum.

Wow impressive for 7 years old Fermi Geforce 400 series still capable to play DirectX 12 games at lowest settings and I am also surprised GTX 465 can run GTA V at 1080p High playable.
 
It's a good thing that the vast majority of people who owned a 4xx/5xx will have more than likely upgraded by now! If not, well at least they will be able to "launch" dx 12 games :p

It's just adding DX12 for the sake of adding it, I don't think they will be making any specific driver optimisations. It will be down to the developers to optimise for the architecture in their DX12 implementations, which of course they will not be doing since Fermi is such an outdated architecture.

If they can't get the Maxwell cards to perform the same as the DX11 implementations in a lot of DX12 titles, you definitely cannot expect them to do it for Fermi.
