January / Feb is not entirely unreasonable. Can see a competitor for example is getting over 400 3090s which will clear there entire pre-order backlog (granted they not kept offering pre-orders). If sales do not increase rapidly with the 3090 when we see those orders lift, which they may not with AMD on the scene at revealed prices, then makes absolute sense for Nvidia to put the 3090 core into a Ti model rather then cut it down even more to go into a 3080 or 3090 at its current price which may not sell as much.
Sure does mean 3080 backlog will remain huge for a while, in fact same competition is only getting 280 odd 3080s, so far less then 3090s and simply put Nvidia won’t care, and if I was them as a business neither would I. Rather put my 3090 core in a higher margin 3080Ti which is at a price point that can sell then go into a lower margin 3080. More so if as per rumour, it’s going on the 3080FE PCB (3090s is different) so only cost change will really be additional memory, GA102 core which they have anyways, yet charge more.
Suffice to say, how AMD stacks up in next few weeks will determine how quick we will see a Ti Model. The parts are all there and if the competition is as good as it looks, they will bring a Ti SKU to the market quickly, abit not in massive numbers either I expect.
