NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

The 9800x3D launch was good in fairness, but yeah this has been terrible in a fair few aspects they could control.
OCUK was the Robin Hood of 9800X3D launch, everybody admired them. They took a 180 with RTX 5000 series GPUs. Quite disappointing. I will be more cautious and less reliant on them for future launches.

Dire times when your options are scalped retailer prices or running the risk of having a paid for preorder for three months and then being asked to cough up even more money to get it. :/

It very much is a paper launch. The 2 leading and most plausible theories as to why was to get in for CES in January for exposure or try get ahead of Trumps tariffs in some form. I don't think there is some malicious intentional stock dripping conspiracy theory going on here. nVidia sell their FE for the MSRP and for whatever they have agreed with AIBs. The only people benefitting from limited stock is retailers and scalpers.

Edit - And when I say benefitting that's in the short term with inflated margins. Ideally massive amounts of stock in the medium to long term equates to more overall sales.

I have to admit, if the pre-order price is liable to go up then the retailer should not be taking the full charge amount on the payment method. Either you lock in the price and take the money or you don't and just place a nominal deposit charge on the card.

All sales prices should be finalised in the conusmer contract each time a purchase is done. If the pre-ordered price is subject to change then it means the consumer can be fckd over in many ways, this practice should be illegal.

The pre-order price if it is increased can be cancelled, also there is a chance that pre-order may reduce in price.

I see people being 20...40...200 in queue. I am 394 for Zotac SOLID 5090 from the other place, never getting . Guess I will be rocking my 3080 for a while.
I didn’t realise my first order never processed so by the time I reordered I’m down at position 239 for the Zotac on the same place.

Like you I’m currently with a 3080 that just can’t keep up with my new 4k OLED.

I decided to go for the 5090 FE, purely for the aesthetic. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to grab one.

Does anyone know if there’s usually a little more FE stock that dribbles onto the Nvidia site over a few weeks post initial sellout?

Or will I have to resign myself to getting an AIB if I’m not prepared to pay scalpers?

There'll be FE stock released in random waves every few days or hours, at least that's how it's been for the 3090 and 4090.

Eventually nvidia will invite you to buy one via email links, if registered with Geforce xp/app.

I imagine many AIB pre-orders will be cancelled when/if people secure the significantly cheaper FE models.

I mean FE is loud and has worst coil whine, but if it's available weeks or months before for £200-600 cheaper than AIB models, that's what many will do IMO

Idk it depends on how bad the coil whine is? If it's awful it might be worth putting up with until you can swap it out for an AIB. When I bought my ASUS 7900XTX the coilwhile was unbearable.. and the sapphire was out of stock everywhere. in the end I decided to up the budget for a 4090 which had no coil whine. I personally would pay over for a card that doesn't have choil whine.

I ordered it on overclockersUK but still no email wrt the queue position. I got a confirmation email for the order though. And that’s it

OCUK don't provide queue positions, folk are talking about a competitor store when it comes to queue positions.

My pre-order queue for the el cheapo Zotac 5090 Solid went down from 435 to 412  (with another supplier that shall not be named)

Yup, I'm down in the 340-350 range now... I don't think I'll be seeing my Solid for a while

Hopefully the ASUS I ordered from OC has me in a better spot / more incoming stock... Whichever comes first I'll probably keep and either MM the spare or just straight return it. (also depends on AIB reviews of the ASUS TUF and the Zotac Solid - if there's a notable difference in perf)

Edit: Also yeah, it kinda hurts having £5k gone on 'pre-orders' that I might not see for months xD

I have to say I’m quite impressed, my Vanguard ordered from a competitor yesterday late afternoon just turned up! Was supposed to be delivered between Monday and Wednesday so really a pleasant “surprise” :)

The card is massive and really gives a good impression when it comes to the materials used and the design/effectiveness of its cooling solution.

You can also clearly see that MSI made a real effort in terms of packaging and style to give an extra touch to this Vanguard “Launch Edition”. Still not sure it’s really worth the extra cost, unless you’re a collector kind of guy, but it’s still nice to see they did try to make it special compared to the rest of the cards out there.

Ok, time to install the beast now, wish me luck that nothing goes wrong!
