NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Paying £300 over the MSRP price seems like panic buying to me.
Probably totally depends on the person and their finances.

There's a fair few people that are time rich, but money poor and others who are time poor but money rich. Also if the GPU is the final component of someone's build I can see people biting early. Every average person with a build already should wait though.

Worst ‘overbuy’ from me was paying >£900 for a 5950x at the peak of the 3000 series Crytpo / Covid builds. Dark days!
Mine was in January 2006, a 7800 GTX 512 for $750 -- an unheard of amount for a graphics card at the time. The much improved 7900 GTX came out just two months later and costed $500

A bit different from today's situ would be happy having bought a 4-series two months ago.

For me it was £930 for a Gigabyte 3080 Aorus Xtreme. It's a great GPU, but I think those flagship GPUs are a waste of money. It was peak crypto/covid 3000 series shortage too, Jan 2021.

Now I just need to wait for my 5090 pre-order and I'll replace it!

I don't feel I have any FOMO. I have a pre-order in at MSRP at a price I'm willing to pay, seems fine to me. Obviously supply will even out eventually, but I'd rather have a GPU sooner than in 6 months+.

That assumes msrp cards exist in the UK. Outside of the Fe, which people might not want for build reasons, there doesn't seem to be any. The ventus has been msrp at a few places but I only saw it in stock for a second and it didn't seem like it got restocked when msi had a drop earlier this week.

Something being msrp in the US doesn't seem to always correlate to the UK for whatever reason. Even board partners were declining to give a models price to kit guru when they asked.

I'm lucky enough to try out different GPUs in around my work and I can undoubtedly say the Suprim series is better than Astral this year in both XX80 and XX90 SKUs. Better noise, better cooling, better PCBs. I have a 5080 Suprim Liquid in a system right now and it's at 3300Mhz 42c. ASUS slaps on a higher factory OC but its meaningless as most if not every 5080 SKU can reach the same OC this year.

It's a shame asus let down it's relatively decent PCB with subpar cooling and noise-solutions this year. The only better cards are coming in much later like Matrix, Lightning etc
