NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Are we saying that left unattended and completely untouched the pc could spontaneously go from OK to catastrophic failure, all by itself?
I mean that's how most house fires caused by electrical appliances start, they're left unattended and completely untouched and sometimes go from OK to catastrophic failure.

Just spoken to the retailer and the MSI 5080 that I bought and paid for is OOS, but they have confirmed that my Saturday delivery is still scheduled! Totally confused now!
They're likely expecting a delivery tomorrow, but I wouldn't hold my breath getting it Saturday. Like @Finner, you may get the DPD confirm, but it will miss the pick up slot.

That makes sense, it is scary though. I leave my PC unattended all the time, and obviously the 4090 FE didn't fail and burn the house down in the year that I owned it, although it could have :(

It's interesting to see the replies from 4090/5090 owners that would never leave it unattended.

3090 owner here, 5090 waiting. When i install a big upgrade which draws a lot of power i like to have a close eye on it for atleast a few weeks before im comfortable to leave it alone, or go to sleep with it downloading something etc. Putting out an electrical fire can be very difficult, especially if it hasnt tripped the circuit and the room is in flames. Had my car boot catch fire due to a lot of amps going through a sub, luckily caught it in time, but wouldnt like to relive the experience in my own home.

The 3090 was about a month or so as you never really heard of melting connectors, when i get a 5090 however, i doubt ill leave that on overnight due to it being so instable.

Theres very few cards about, yet 2 have melted that we know of, and others are now checking their cables and reporting that some are pulling more amps than others and generating heat. JayzTwoCents also said in his latest video that he reckons there will be more to come and a lot more PSU's affected too as thats where the cables are hottest.

The highlighted part chimes with me. As I understand it, most of the melty 4090s emerged within a week or so of being installed/fettled with. Obviously, none of the 5090s that are going pop at the moment have been installed for very long. Once it's been installed for a few weeks without issue, my level of paranoia will generally reduce.

Serious question, if one of these catches fire and burns down your house can you sue Nvidia for selling a dangerous product?
In practice, you would claims from your house insurers, who may choose to counterclaim from Nvidia if they had sufficient evidence

Suprim will happily melt your 12V HPWR cables though with no warning - whereas the Astral will warn you. Gives the Astral the crown, IMO, as it's the only card that will monitor each cable.

Of course this is only if there's an issue with the cable or connectors. We don't know how prevalent this will be yet as only 5 people worldwide have cards. The 4090 situation was blown way out of proportion - though as the influencers have pointed out, the 5090 leaves little saferoom by using the full 600W.
I think any card will happily melt your cables under specific circumstances (whatever they turn out to be)... but unless the Asus software proactively monitors this in real-time (which I'm sure it does), can logically make a decision based on the data it sees (couldn't comment) and will automatically instantly power off to fail-safe if it detects a problem (which I assume it can't), then I can't really see it'll make a great deal of difference.

I guess you could always split screen everything you do and have the monitoring software running all the time. Quick eyes and quicker feet (leg it over to the power switch) might save the day :)

6x people btw, so far so good my end, but I have a bucket of sand on standby ;)

Started making progress on the Zotac solid again, gone from 104 to 101 in the last couple of days.
wow you jumped 3 places in 2 days, at that rate your looking at 7 weeks give or take a few days, at least you know,

Overclockers pre-order customer are left in limbo, no que status so we dont know how long it will take, trying to figure what benefit OCUK make by not providing these details to customers
