NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

My trust Corsair RM850x is a very well rated power supply, so i'd be surprised if it was causing any issues, but you never know. Thanks for raising it. It had never even crossed my mind that PSUs can affect coil whine.
No worries, definitely something to consider/research, especially as my brother with a 6800 non-XT also recently swapped PSU (to the same as yours, albeit the ATX3.1 model like mine) and experienced the exact same behaviour with coil whine.

My Palit 1080 Ti also had none.

Slightly off topic but my 6800 XT had lots of coil whine with an EVGA 850w PSU that was 6+ years old, which worsened as time went on.

I bought an RM1000X to replace it when the warranty ran out and now I have minimal if not zero coil whine! The source of it was definitely the card too, a pleasant surprise.
I had a similar problem on my 3090 and coil whine with an evga psu, changed for a corsair 1200w which resolved the problem

A launch with tight supply? In this day and age? Unheard of...

I don't know if it's due to the amount of time the AIB partners have to develop and manufacture the product or if it is done to create a scarcity? But if it's neither of those things you would have thought they would have learnt by now.

I'm just hoping it's better than the 3080 launch, that was rough

The last I heard is that TSMC has actually lowered the price on some of its wafers as its fabs aren't at full capacity. How true that is and which nodes is unknown. What I can say for sure is that 50 series cards will sell out at launch.

I've been reading this thread with interest. I've just built a new PC minus a GPU, last card was a 1070OC. That finally gave up the ghost last month. I'm a little concerned that if I miss out on the 30th, I'll be stuck since there doesn't seem to be stock of the 4080 Super (my original choice) anywhere. Typical that for once I have the money for a new card but supply might be my nemesis!

Currently using video out from my motherboard. I love Balatro but that isn't really what I built this PC for :)

Look on the bright side, you may end up with a 5080 (I assume) instead of a 4080S. Do you have a particular model in mind, FE or AIB?

Yes 5080 is what I’m hoping for. I’m not really sure which model. I do like the look of the FE, but realistically I’ll be happy to get anything at this point. I was lucky enough to score a 9800X3D from OC in the second batch, hoping that luck holds. And I admit that I do feel a little self entitled about it all. I’m lucky to be sitting with a new PC at all, I know plenty of people who wouldn’t be able to prioritise something like that just now. But I’m 53 now, been gaming since 1982. Who knows how many builds I have left in me?! :)

I would say feel entitled to a new gpu lol, be a hell of an upgrade from a 1070! Im hoping to get a 5090, my first ever launch so not sure what to expect, hopefully we can both get a new card.

From another 50 series thread. Add on another £300-400 to those prices you had in mind.
I think a lot of it will depend on these all important reviews coming next week. Most people aren't gonna drop £2k+ on a new GPU without seeing some actual benchmarks first, and if the rumoured performance leap isn't that great I think the demand might not be too great after all.
I think most people who have funds to drop £2.5k on a GPU probably already have a 4090, and it's looking increasingly more like the upgrade from Lovelace won't be worth it
