NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

VRAM is ok, tensors are lacking on the 3090
We haven't seen the real performance of AI with the 5xxx series since PyTorch is still lagging with optimisations but I can't imagine a 5070Ti beating a 3090 when under 16GB. I know there's Procyon (or whatever it's called) but that's like 3Dmark for gaming, it's just synthetics.

this Nvidia 50 series launch is an absolute disgrace, Nvidia and its partners are responsible for this inept release, they starved the market for 6 months and now are throwing crumbs, crumbs that people are paying very high prices for, they are doing this to inflate prices for future products.

This behaviour should be outlawed and regulated, Nvidia should be forced to split into different companies as they are to big, so big they cant even manage it.

Otherwise this will be the norm for years to come.

Nvidia priority is AI hence no supply, until that bubble bursts expect little to no supply. All on Nvidia this. I will reward AMD with a purchase if they have stock at a good msrp.

A big part is consumer mentality as well though.

Why are people paying the premiums?

I was willing to pay £1949 for a 5090.

I'm not prepared to pay more than that, so am playing the waiting game

So wait a bit longer to build up some stock before releasing the cards then....

i mean in this very thread you have people sitting with several 5000s already, upgrading from a 4090 no doubt. Buyer doesn't care and proceeds to consume, why should they

The market will be the ultimate arbiter, but like the chap above who said they were willing to pay MSRP for a 5090, I was at first also willing to pay up to £2500 for a WB version.

Since I missed out and cooled down I decided £2k was my limit. As time ticked on, I am now just not going to buy at all and am thinking much more rationally.

I like best in class, am willing to overpay, but now I feel it’s just been a massive contemptuous exercise bringing the worst out.

At some point, that sentiment does result in market changes and that’s why I reckon there’ll be an oversaturated supply in response - to try and restore that sentiment, but in doing so will mean prices fall and loads of early adopter sentiment will get harmed instead.

Hard to come out of this one looking good I’d say.
