Yeah I'm hoping the low amount of stock is because they're checking but I think that's very wishful thinkingWe've not seen reports of missing ROPs for a while. I'm hoping the cards landing with retailers now have been checked for them.

I think that might be right, rather than wishful thinking (which is nice). We've had a lot of cards ship over the last week, including a moderate drop of FE cards, and I've not seen a single report of missing ROPs.Yeah I'm hoping the low amount of stock is because they're checking but I think that's very wishful thinking
Be honest. How much had you had to drink at the moment you clicked 'Buy now' on a 5090 Palit for £2,400. I thought I was a silly for even mulling over whether to spend £2430 on the ASUS Tuf the other day, or even the Vanguard for £2600 2 days ago.I've been to pick up my Palit Gamerock 5090. It's installed and working, with all ROPs present and correct. I've just cancelled my order at the queue place, so if you were behind position 22, you get to advance a place.
And now to soapbox for a moment...
This has been an absolute bloody catastrophe of a launch. I ended up paying £2400 for a Palit. That's £250 more than my pre-order at the queues place. Maybe that place will get floods of cards next week and I'll end up looking stupid. But I don't care. I finally get to uncouple myself from the stock checker apps and from refreshing my queue position page. I now get to move onto the next stage - obsessively sniffing my GPU and PSU and touch-testing the heat of my 12v2x6 cable for the next couple of weeks. Because it's absolutely clear that Nvidia have lost the plot and were not ready to launch the Blackwell cards.
We can complain about a lot of people here. AIB manufacturers are scalping retailers. Retailers are passing that on to customers. Scalpers are being their usual parasitic selves. But none of that would be possible if Nvidia hadn't screwed up this launch beyond all comprehension. It's ultimately all on them. The warning signs have been there since last Autumn, when there were reports of problems with their Blackwell AI chips. I know that the current precipitous drop in their share price is nothing to do with their consumer GPU woes, but I'd like to think at least some of it is down to the company being so bloody incompetent. Jensen's ambitions have now exceeded his abilities. Nvidia have fundamentally failed thus far to scale up to being a big global megacorp.
Hah! I hadn't been drinking and I didn't click "Buy now". A friend ended up with two - he was in the queue for an Astral but was giving up hope. He saw a Palit earlier in the week and bought it (I think probably from the cuboid place)... then the queue place got a bunch of Astrals in and his order shipped. So he called me at work and asked if I wanted to buy the Palit for the price he'd paid for it. I was so sick of queue checking and jumping at my phone every time I got a stock notification that I agreed.Be honest. Anyway, as long as you are happy!

If that was true they wouldn't be telling partners to check laptops that are releasing soon for missing ROPs.There's no need for them to check: they know where the issue was which only was present in the first few batch of chips. In fact, nV (and likely affected AIBs) knew and still shipped them anyways because they wanted to shore up the already-pathetic supply.
I wouldn't worry too much about any further card missing ROP.
If that was true they wouldn't be telling partners to check laptops that are releasing soon for missing ROPs.
They would be a very unusual manufacturer if they didn’t know exactly which batches are affected and why, every single component will be tracked to where it ended up.If that was true they wouldn't be telling partners to check laptops that are releasing soon for missing ROPs.
By misdirection do you mean completely made up?Classic misdirection.
Classic misdirection.
I dunno, but we've had information on good authority(JarrodsTech who is one of the most prominent laptop reviewers) that publicly Nvidia are saying the laptops are fine while behind the scenes they're telling the manufacturers to double check for ROPs.They would be a very unusual manufacturer if they didn’t know exactly which batches are affected and why, every single component will be tracked to where it ended up.
Well said, I was so tempted to buy at £2600 out of desperation but fortunately the order didn’t go through.I've been to pick up my Palit Gamerock 5090. So you’re telling me they don’t know what caused these errors and thus have no idea which batches are affected.I dunno, but we've had information on good authority(JarrodsTech who is one of the most prominent laptop reviewers) that publicly Nvidia are saying the laptops are fine while behind the scenes they're telling the manufacturers to double check for ROPs.

I'm not saying that at all. It's possible they know the batches but can't easily check(ie it's written on the die but not a box), and that's still considered checking. It's not impossible for them to lose track of where stuff was sent through countries and distributors lol.So you’re telling me they don’t know what caused these errors and thus have no idea which batches are affected.
So in the future the same random error will occur.
No I’m afraid I find that hard to believe.
Got an alert for 5090 Asus Tuf in the rainy forest 100% -£3650 off, for £1. Def looks legit and the seller has good reviews so I bought one quick, then went back and bought 2 more.
Checked back 4 times already to make sure it's not just a picture or something, but it's def a full specced item linking in with the MSI page.
Let's see what happens, will have some fun with this

I find it hard you dont feel a difference when its quite a good uplift as well, even being on the same nmWhilst I agree with you, you're not wrong. But playing devils advocate, there is another side to the coin... Consumers
With the image quality of DLSS 4, do people really need to upgrade to the 5090..? I went from 4090 - 5090 and I've noticed pretty much zero difference.
It's literally the difference of running DLSS on quality instead of balanced
A lot of the scrabble for the 5090 is people simply wanting the top card and this is something that is becoming less important with the likes of DLSS. It also used to be rare. The top '90' card or 'Titan' was a niche, reserved for the very few people who were willing to pay the premium. The 5080 is where the top mainstream card used to sit and even though the launch has been bad for the 5080 too, there's been a steady flow of them. It's weird because the less the 90 series card is needed, the more demand there is for it.
And as for scalping... If people refused to pay those prices, the prices would drop.
I find it hard you dont feel a difference when its quite a good uplift as well, even being on the same nm
I'm certainly noticing quite a big difference in Monster Hunter Wilds. That had some big framerate lurches on the 4090 that the 5090 doesn't seem to get so far.
