NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Whilst I agree with you, you're not wrong. But playing devils advocate, there is another side to the coin... Consumers

With the image quality of DLSS 4, do people really need to upgrade to the 5090..? I went from 4090 - 5090 and I've noticed pretty much zero difference.
It's literally the difference of running DLSS on quality instead of balanced

A lot of the scrabble for the 5090 is people simply wanting the top card and this is something that is becoming less important with the likes of DLSS. It also used to be rare. The top '90' card or 'Titan' was a niche, reserved for the very few people who were willing to pay the premium. The 5080 is where the top mainstream card used to sit and even though the launch has been bad for the 5080 too, there's been a steady flow of them. It's weird because the less the 90 series card is needed, the more demand there is for it.

And as for scalping... If people refused to pay those prices, the prices would drop.
Some of us aren't on 4090s though. I ended up not playing mh wilds yet because it rarely keeps 60fps on a 3080 during combat. Never mind the texture issues because of low vram.

Yeah I'm hoping the low amount of stock is because they're checking but I think that's very wishful thinking
The FE I received yesterday had a a manufacture and QC date stamp of 21/1/2025 which predates the launch and stories of missing ROPs. FE packaging was fully sealed.
If it had been physically checked it would have to be repackaged and presumably would have another QC date.
So either it was just on a slow boat, or held whilst batch numbers were checked.

Are you looking to get a 5090?
Because my devils advocate post is just referring to people buying the 5090... The 5080 is easy to get hold of, it's just being scalped by around £200 instead of £500+ like the 5090 is

Yes, I've had one on pre-order since release.

So I haven't been posting here for a month because I was getting depressed from constantly checking 5090 stock and failing to get one. But after seeing the power connector issues, lack of PhysX 32 bit support, etc, I was actually quite happy sticking with my Gigabyte 4090 OC.

I stopped checking online and decided not to even consider getting a 5090 until it's somewhat available, like the 4090 in 2023. The only thing I did was sign up for Nvidia's priority access, in the US . I didn't think the chances were high since I know that even Nvidia has very few 5090s. Their official FE distributor, Best Buy, hasn't had any 5090s for sale since Feb 20th.

Surprisingly, I actually received Nvidia's invitation to buy a 5090 on Tuesday. I ordered it immediately and it's due to arrive on Monday.

At launch, I would have been super excited but now that the hype has died down, I'm actually feeling kinda ambivalent about the upgrade.

I would have preferred a higher end AIB since the FE gets pretty loud and hot. My Gigabyte 4090 OC stays quiet and low even when running at 500W.

However, the price hikes for the AIBs have been getting ridiculous. I could afford a $3000 USD videocard but I would rather put the difference towards a 9950X3D+new mobo. So basically the FE is my only option for a 5090 right now because the other near MSRP 5090s haven't been available for months.

I'm most likely gonna stick with the 5090 FE but if it does get annoyingly loud or bugs out, then I'll go back to the 4090. Which is crazy to even consider, because I've never gone back to an older gen product before. I wish the current market isn't so ridiculous that the choice is either a reasonably priced FE or a decent AIB that is at least 30% more expensive.

Ambivalence and zero sum game are operative and apt descriptors for this entire launch. Even if you get one, it's a Pyrric victory.

Exact same here. On a 3080 and put off wilds till my 5090 comes. At least kc2 runs at a locked 60 with a 3080. Almost 35 hours in and loving everything but the clunky fighting hahah

My perception is that most people who are in the market for a 5090 on here (out of the regulars) have now got one. In which case, supply ought to hopefully sort out back to ‘normal prices’ in maybe the same time period again. Maybe in May? Just speculation.

Nope, still looking. Also, even if those of us here all had cards now, we make up a fraction of a fraction of the people in the market for a 5090.

Supply is still awful woth preorders in the 100s for some models places.

I haven’t got one either. But most people on OcUK who were regularly posting about - being the group of people I referred to - do seem to have got them in their hands. Again, that’s just my perception.

When do you think prices / supply will normalise?

Supply is slightly improved from just about zero, but prices seem to be rising as more retailers realise they can make a few quid.
Personally I’ve nearly had an overpriced one a few times or even a high msrp model, but the more I hear about real world experiences, the less I am prepared to pay tbh.
So I’m going to wait it out, (I have a 4090 which is still doing a remarkable job)

If I still had my 4090 - sold in November, prior to the launch - I would not be considering a 5090. Now, seeing as used 4090s are going for near £2000 (nv's plan stopping 4090 manufacuring early), I might as well try for a 5090.

By misdirection do you mean completely made up?

The missing ROPs issue isn't made up. nV know exactly where the issue arose and with which batches snd they won't be shipping any more of these. It was a localized production issue at TSMC, the chips were shipped to nV, these chips were caught in testing by nV, and nV chose to ship them to AIBs (possibly instructing AIBs to use them despite the missing/deactivated ROPs).

The misdirection lies in nV telling AIBs to check for missing ROPs thereby insinuating the issue was missed and needs to be caught by them. This isn't the first time nV tried to tacitally pass on responsibily and blame to their partners -- it's pretty standard operating procedure for them.

Testing the Palit 5070ti I don’t hear any coilwine and it’s very quiet

Playing Hell divers 2 at max settings on 1440p G Sync monitor with 130 FPS so nice, I was thinking of getting a 34 inch ultra wide but I believe the performance hit be too much?

I believe the rule of thumb is a 20% performance hit for 21:9 against the equivalent 16:9 performance.

I got my Zotac 5080 infinity arrive today, and my god the size of it compared to my old KFA2 3080. Much quieter, zero coil whine, way more solid too the things a beast and obviously quite a step up in performance. Very happy with it over all, even considering how disappointing the 5080 a GPU is (16gb vram is sad in 2025 on a 1k gpu). Ultimately I didn't have much choice in my upgrade, my partner needed a new GPU and this was a perfect excuse to upgrade!

It's about 30%, from my experience. Also, certain games could put more load on the CPU because the game is now rendering more objects.

I am on a 7800XT, but ordered a 5900 to go in my new pc.
Still number 170 in the queue (down from 225), so potentially a long wait.

Due to this I ordered a 970 XT and the plan is now:
A) Keep the 970 XT and cancel the 5090 (saving just short of 2k)
B) move the 970 XT to my old pc, keep the 5090 and sell the 7800XT.

Will see how some games play and go from there. I just want a competent graphics card to power an ultrawide monitor that is quiet. Is that too much to ask?
