NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Makes perfect sense. I don't see 60 percent gains coming from 1 generation any more. Apart from physics increasingly being a problem you've got AI to help plus little competition. I reckon 30ish percent will be what they target now. Just enough to catch the FOMO!
Couldn't agree more. And yes, enough for an idiot like me to experience FOMO.

I shall be doing this as well.. i hope it will align with AMD Zen 6 and get the latest X3D chip to go with it :)
Yes please! I upgraded from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D as the cost of change wasn't that much, and I will do the same as soon as the 10800X3D (zen 6) comes out. I am CPU bound in enough games at 4K for it to be worth me constantly upgrading my CPU.

5080 OC model and looking at:

+250 boost
+500 core
+1000 memory.

Without messing with an undervolt.

Lovely

It's strange how much nVidia seems to have held back the core clocks on the 5080. It's been a while since we've seen this much overclocking headroom.

Will be interesting to see what some golden samples can do under water.

does it really make any difference to them who buys the product I will sell anything to anyone I couldnt care one way or the other how much extra they charge customers or resell the product for

as a buisiness you just need to get the margin high and stock turn flowing
I believe it does, customer satisfaction is also as important. Nobody wants to buy from a store with bad reputation, and bot infestation is bad news. Would you buy from a store where bots gonna leave you in dust, or try elsewhere? I would personally go where I have the best chance. Normal customers won't return to stores that left them with bad taste, and scalpers will only be rare customers. It's not just GPUs that OCUK sells.

I can call myself a loyal customer, but this time nvidia gone a bit too far

Nvidia: ...and I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling customers!

How much?
I sold it to CEX for £1008, I posted a few weeks back at the time I did it. I didn’t want to bother with scammers on eBay although I’ve sold 1080 Ti, 2080 Ti and 3080 on there before. I thought just go for a hassle free sale before the 5090 reviews were out in case the price dropped.
I didn’t expect them to go up and if people are paying over msrp for a card that’s not far off half 2 and half years old that’s up to them. For me I was happy to get a good chunk of cash for what I thought is an outdated card as it’s been discontinued and hasn’t got the latest AI tech.
In the end it only cost around £28 a month to own the 4090 as had it from launch day and it was 27 months old so can’t complain really. I’ve effectively swapped it for the brand new 5080 with 3 years warranty, so haven’t lost out that way. Although I was hoping to snag a 5090.
It might work out better this way as I’ve got the feeling and said it before that 50 series feels like a stop gap gen, and if they release 60 series in September or October 2026 we don’t have that long to wait so can grab the flagship card then. No point on super as by the time they release them, the new card is usually out the same year.

Where did you manage to get an INNO3D 5080? I thought it's not being sold in UK.

I can’t mention competitors but it was from another vendor, received it at 1030am this morning. Compared to my old Zotac AIRO extreme 4090 which was a 4 slot beast with the most annoying fan noise (not coil whine) this is whisper quiet and is actually smaller in size than the 5080 FE. It’s the X3 OC.

Congrats. I was eyeing the 5090 Frostbite but couldn't manage to locate a UK vendor for it.

Thanks I haven’t seen any vendors selling the 5080 or 5090 frostbite in the UK. Are there any worldwide selling them yet, if not maybe they’ve pushed back the release date for them?

RTX 4090 v 5080. 4090 is a better 4k path tracing card :

"I'm not even sure if a 6080 will be faster than the 4090"

Never thought about that, but the precedent is there, if the 5080's gain over the 4080 repeats itself, then yeah the 6080 might be on par or slower than the 4090.

And at 10:15 the 5080 with its low 16GB is already running out of VRAM in Indiana Jones at 4K with maxed out settings when patch tracing and texture is at the supreme setting, drops to 3fps because the VRAM ran out . If they went with 20GB+ then it wouldn't have been an issue as it has the power to run it, just not enough VRAM.

So a brand new modern GPU and you already have to reduce texture settings, great bloody job Nvidia.

They're coming next month apparently. Theres an Inno3D employee on a dutch forum that said so atleast.

I can understand people buying the 5090 still, as it is the fastest GPU. I just can’t understand people picking up a 5080 though… It’s a truly miserable little card for that money.
It’s sad how bad the GPU market has got. Retailers actively scalping and people lining up for the privilege.
