NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

You need to use an API to get stock drop alerts. If you are relying on manual refreshing you are unlikely to succeed.

I ordered almost an hour after launch via an API and got an FE. I was hoping to get an AIB then 45 minutes later saw that there was 0 stock of AIB cards so casually tried for an FE. I didn't even rush through the checkout. I only made sure that all my address, card details etc were available in Firefox autofill and my bank transaction 2FA was to hand to use ASAP.
Yep. I didnt know about that so I tried manually and it was largely impossible without luck. I saw the button change once but by the time I got into the link and clicked add to cart it was already gone. I think it keeps the stock for you if you manage to add.

Another reason why this is such a mess though really. Shouldn't have to be in the know to get one. It should be accessible to people going to the website normally...

I agree but things start getting complicated otherwise. I personally would not be against linking Government ID against an account which then enables you access to order functions but I know many would be dead set against it.

Well I don't know if it needs to go as far as that as much as they can make use of the nvidia accounts they already have. Give priority to those of us who have had a history of cards and usage. They're already pushing their nvidia app on people lol.

That all said the real answer is just having more stock. It's a night and day difference between say an apple launch and a nvidia one despite them being top companies in valuations.

Feeling smug now. Bought my 4090 in November for £1200 from the MM because I felt this launch was going to be bad and pricey and limited. I bought 3090 launch day for £1400 then sold that for about £450 I think so 4090 for £750. No interest in the 5000 series or maybe even 6000 series.

Starting to think in 5 years the GPU market is going to be a different thing, with lithography limits, material costs and the pricing out of most normal consumers (even those like us that spend lots on parts). I wonder if at some point you'll have to have an AI partner installed along with the GPU to help compute.

GTA6, Kingdom come 2 and replaced are the only games I really have on my radar for the next couple years so buying another GPU is bottom of the list for a while now.

The only reason I’m thinking of “upgrading” from my 4070ti Super is warranty along with the 20% performance bump.

I bought it at a good price 2nd hand on eBay, but obviously there’s no warranty, touch wood it’s great but if anything goes wrong I’m stuffed. As it is I can probably get about £500 for it, so is it worth the piece of mind for £500?
GPUs have around a 2% failure rate

For sure; when a new iPhone comes out I can always secure one for delivery in one week even though millions of units are sold. Apple has nailed product launches; Nvidia is a pathetic sack of rot

And ironically assembling the iPhone is probably more complicated than assembling a GPU

I need help with pricing before I list my rare RTX 5090?*

Yes I did, I only have a 4K/60Hz monitor so it’s not an issue. As mentioned the main driver was to get rid of the Zotac card as it had terrible noise so I achieved that. In the meantime I’ve been using my 4070 FE so I’ve gone from 4090 to 4070 to 5080. If I can score a 5090 in next few months I’ll just sell on the 4070 or 5080 depending on which one I want to keep as a backup card. Anymore than 3 months and the fomo will wear off and the 60 series will probably be Q4 2026 anyway, as they have brought the release forward 6 months of the data centre successor to Blackwell. Unless Jensen wants to milk 50 series in the consumer space due to lack of competition.
So you spent like 1500 for a 15% drop in performance?
