NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

On a 1440p monitor unfortunately, so probably would let me do 5120x2880 at 200%? or would it let me run it at 8K?
Good question. Those games allow pushing internal rendering to 200% so if you use Nvidia Dynamic Super Resolution to push it to 4K on desktop then set it in-game to 200% render scale it might work. Otherwise 5K is cool too, still lots of pixels.

Yes I did, I only have a 4K/60Hz monitor so it’s not an issue. As mentioned the main driver was to get rid of the Zotac card as it had terrible noise so I achieved that. In the meantime I’ve been using my 4070 FE so I’ve gone from 4090 to 4070 to 5080. If I can score a 5090 in next few months I’ll just sell on the 4070 or 5080 depending on which one I want to keep as a backup card. Anymore than 3 months and the fomo will wear off and the 60 series will probably be Q4 2026 anyway, as they have brought the release forward 6 months of the data centre successor to Blackwell. Unless Jensen wants to milk 50 series in the consumer space due to lack of competition.
Should have just turned the fans down on the 4090

You need to use an API to get stock drop alerts. If you are relying on manual refreshing you are unlikely to succeed.

I ordered almost an hour after launch via an API and got an FE. I was hoping to get an AIB then 45 minutes later saw that there was 0 stock of AIB cards so casually tried for an FE. I didn't even rush through the checkout. I only made sure that all my address, card details etc were available in Firefox autofill and my bank transaction 2FA was to hand to use ASAP.

Yep. I didnt know about that so I tried manually and it was largely impossible without luck. I saw the button change once but by the time I got into the link and clicked add to cart it was already gone. I think it keeps the stock for you if you manage to add.

Another reason why this is such a mess though really. Shouldn't have to be in the know to get one. It should be accessible to people going to the website normally...

I didn’t know about this API method. I purchased my 5090 FE completely manually, and without any crazy refreshing. I had basically given up and left my computer by around 1425 (I had been trying a few shops, no rapid refreshing, I had little hope tbh). Then came back to my computer at around 1500 and refreshed the FE site a couple of times, saw the buy button and managed to get one. I did click through the buying process as fast as I possibly could though. I realise how lucky I was, and it really was sheer luck, nothing else. It’s actually arrived this afternoon and I will be installing it shortly :)

Hah, just noticed (and so did Linus on a podcast) that GeForce Now has closed subscriptions - they're full, run out of space in the cloud for more subs. Which is another confirmation that even they have no gaming GPUs to add to their own cloud anymore, as every single piece of silicone they can they pushed into AI accelerators productions. Very telling about future deliveries of 5k series to (not) come, I would say. It also explains the whole paper lunch fiasco.

It's really bizarre. I can't think of any other product where so many feel the need to judge and criticize the purchasing choices of others.
I'm of two minds about it, on the one hand if you see someone about to make what you know to be a poor decision, it's right to say something.

But I also have a friend who has ordered a 5080, they know what they are getting into, they understand the pros and cons, they got exactly the one they wanted, the smaller white gigabyte one, which perfectly matches thier build and they paid damn near msrp. And I couldn't be happier for them. They are excited and it would be crappy for me to try be a downer about it.

I am not buying a 5080 and I would warn people against it, but end of the day so long as people understand what they are getting for thier money I guess leave them to enjoy it.

It's been closed for new subscriptions since a week or 2 before the 50 series launch

Someone pre-ordered MSi 5080 Suprim at £1700. Make it make sense.

I can only assume they are a masochist who enjoys pain; same type of person who buys a Intel 285k

Always found the silly premium end of the gpu market bizarre. Especially when the price of them ends up very very close to (or even more!) than a decent card from the tier above.

Always astonished there is a market for it, but there must be.

Eh, nah, that's not actually the real story. They shut subscriptions because they've been forced to migrate their payment processing due to digital river shutting down. Apparently everyone who was signed up before they took it down is getting free Geforce Now for like a month+ until they complete the swap. Wish I'd have known so I could have bought some subscription time before, haha.

Did anyone get a 5090 msi gaming x trio card? No reviews for it yet so curious about noise and temp compared to the FE.

Wonder what Jensens reaction would be if for the 5070 reviews people just put them directly against a 4090 and no other card....hmmz

HUB might do this for fun I think. Make a video out of it. Why not :D
