NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Right now though, I'm reading from quite a few online comments that even with fake frames the higher FPS from the 5090 @4k doesn't feeel like it should in game.

I suspect the poor uplift of 1% minimums/lows is to blame here, in a couple of 5090 reviews it was only around 12% better than a 4090. So plenty more fake FPS from fake frames, but not the in-game experience to match.

That hasn’t been the impression I’ve had at all. TechPowerUp results suggests a 30% uplift on 1% lows across their suite of games at 4k.

I've always managed to get cards I've wanted on launch day at MSRP. 5700 XT, 3070, 3060 Ti, 4070 Ti. I reckon I'll get a 5070 Ti.

5070 Ti FE (and the non ASUS cards) needed to be $599 at most imo.

At least I have close to 2 years warranty left on my 4070 Ti. Roll on 6000 series :D

I'll just summarize: 5070 ti is an abomination of a card at its actual street price, middling at its RRP. You could have had better performance at this cost for nearly two years.

On the plus side, anyone who did buy a 40 series card now get to stay relevant for another two years at least

That's really the only silver lining for people with older GPUs - if new GPUs suck then game developers can't increase the system requirements for new games, so older GPus remain relevant for longer!

Complete failure on one generation does not bode any better for the next...

Maybe not. But I don't need the extra performance right now. By then I probably will and with them moving to a better manufacturing process we should hopefully see better results.

Mhm slower than 4080 while using the same power draw, mhm technology continues going backwards

Upgrading every generation isn't normally that spectacular even for a good generation. You're fine.

I would still worry that these supply issues are happening on a mature process node! God forbid you add yield teething issues to that

I think supply issues are manufactured to grab the FOMO's and create fake demand.

I'm happy with this generation because I was able to sell my 4090FE for more than I paid for it 20 months ago and upgrade to a 5090FE :D
I can see why other people aren't happy though lol...

Fingers crossed I'll be able to do the same thing in another 2 years
6000 series should be a good performance boost thanks to new architecture and a smaller node

They had publicised issues with the design which caused delays. Personally I think they've paper launched prior to ramping up production in an effort to reach the original target launch before the setbacks.
