NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Uplift is poor this gen so for sure it's less exciting than previous generations. The problem with waiting for a Ti is there's a good chance it's just a pre-overclocked 5080 with more VRAM that's more expensive and potentially not that far off from the 60 series launch.. which is a node shrink and hopefully more interesting. Who knows though, maybe the 60 series is terrible.
Thank you, guess I'll stick with my 3090 for now.

i have just bought the NZXT C1500 as listed in the link. Can get for £240. It should keep me good for a good few years and has dual 12V-2x6 Connectors in case Nvidia wake up and add two to the 6000 series.

No kill like overkill but at full load that should keep you at max efficiency.

Is a 7900xtx to a 5080 crazy just for another hdmi port :p

Because I’m seriously hovering over the buy button.

I’m out of ideas and I miss my recliner tv gaming.

Don’t see any other way to use my pc on both screens at 4K 120.

Would get a good bit back on my 7900xtx I guess.

I should wait for at least the 5090 though. I could just manually switch for now I guess!

ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY arrived today from other retailer. The card seems pretty solid and well build, I think I could throw it at the wall and it wouldn't bother (but probably would not run anymore so not fancy testing it out :D).

Temporarily hooked it up to my PC with a PCIe rise cable, to check out ROPs, 176 as it should be. Tried a couple of games and they ran like crap, like power draw was around 300W and barely getting as much FPS as a 7900XTX, but that's because I just installed Nvidia driver and that's it. After I removed the 5090 and hooked the 7900XTX back that was also running like garbage.
So it is definitely not recommended to run 2 separate brand drivers on your system. Once I am done with my shift I will properly install the 5090 and DDU isntall Nvidia driver. For now It will be only left air cooled but I got an Alphacool waterblock on the way too.
As for noise, the fan isn't intrusive at all, and the coil whine is 4/10. So it is there, but you'd have to stick your head next to it to make it sound peculiar, with a closed side panel and playing games it's nothing really.

Btw, I ordered PNY 5090 argb triple fan OC, but it was pushed back by another 2 months (so almost May) a few days ago. Then 2 days ago, other retailer sent me an offer via email to trade it in for the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY, and I said f yeah :)

So noticed a strange bug with the new 572.83 drivers.

The GPU (5090) wont always boost, it seems that a system shutdown or putting the PC to sleep fixes the issue.

But only noticed it with this driver (my AC Shadows FPS with frame gen was awful).

So I did the following
1)Fresh W11 install
2)Physically removed and reinstalled the GPU into the PCIE slot
3)Changed PCIE from Auto to Gen 4 in the bios

Reinstalled 572.83....

And....

its fixed?

Seems to be so far.

I think I need to look at replacing my PSU? Currently using an 850W, recommendations for a replacement?

I was looking at that PSU line up as well, should I find a 5090 in my hands anytime soon. Then I saw the NZXT C1500 is available for £240, which is very highly rated and more future proof.

I’m thinking of getting a a Lian Li Edge 1300w, anyone here with knowledge/experience for this PSU?

This Antec is made by Seasonic, whilst the NZXT is made by CWT. Both respected OEMs for PSU.
I really hope we are not going to need 1500W in the future. Things are already catching fire!

Is it still true that Seasonic is sort-of the pinnacle of PSU OEMs? I got a CWT unit, but always wonder if I should have gone through the extra fuss for a Seasonic.

Yeah I have had good experiences with seasonic, they even shipped me a cable for my Ampere card that I bought well before that era and its still going in my other machine. Corsair would have been my next choice but since the 50 series issues with cables I would rethink it (monitoring the popular brands) until the QA feedback on some units, you may see some pattern forming for returns.

I ordered one from America last July, worked out £80 cheaper than they cost over here at the time, and the price was below the tariff threshold. Arrived in 3 weeks.

What kind of scores everyone rocking on 5090s in monster hunter wilds benchmark? Just fiddling with overclocking mine now after being happy with stock performance. Keeping a very close eye on power draw though
