NVIDIA ShadowPlay

At the end of the day it's free. Install it, give it a try, you can always go back to your preferred software later.

If nVidia are touting recording at 1080p using H264 natively then that's pretty impressive and I'll be very interested to see what it can achieve.

If it gives you good quality at a decent size, then it might negate the need to record lossless with, say, Lagarith and then transcode to H264.

Nvidia trying to incorporate new features into their video cards and people flock to criticize. Seems like a pretty useful feature to me. Can't wait to get my GTX 780 :)

But can you set what resolution it records to independent of the resolution your playing at, so I can play at 2560 x 1440 and record at 1920 x 1080? I assume and hope so.

I'll stick to using Dxtory. 20mins lol pointless also Dxtory has multi audio sources recording one reason why it stands on top by itself when it comes to recording software.

You're missing the point of Shadowplay.

It's literally Tivoing the last 20mins at all times so whatever happens in a game you can be sure you've caught it on file ready to share rather than remembering to hit record or sift through GBs of footage as is the case with Fraps.

So assuming this works much better than fraps, does anyone think it would be able to record triple screen play rather well? Fraps seems to just lag it way too much :(

Sounds interesting, i'd love a program that gave 0 input lag / stuttering to record BF3, but I can't seem to find it.

Dxtory has been the best so far but it still causes slight stuttering which throws off my aim completely :(

Sounds and looks great :) I was looking for an alternative to Fraps just a few nights ago. I'm sick of my BF3 videos taking up mass space and the laggyness of Fraps. ShadowPlay seems like just the thing I'm looking for :)

This is gonna be like any other game recorder.

FRAPS will still be king when it comes to high uncompressed quality (which some people prefer)

Whilst this like dxtory will be good for your standard slapdash youtube quality video's.

You can set dxtory to use the fraps codec, which gives the same quality? Using lagarith it's just more efficient, and its still lossless?

Fraps is not the king at all.

DxTory with Lagarith produces near pixel perfect footage at more than suitable file sizes.

DxTory is far more configurable and compared to FRAPS would dictate FRAPS is the app you would use for quick off the cuff videos.

I will be trying this out.

As afterburner has one fatal flaw for me, that is file size, it was like 3-5Gb for about 3 minutes O_O

Still lose out on RGB info with lagarith, but that dosen't matter to 95% of most people using it.

Great news! I do wonder about the performance of the NV encoder. I will certainly want to try this out. Going by the various reports it looks like Nvidia is really set to expand on this software.

FRAPS, by the way, does have a shadow-record feature. It's called Loop Buffer in FRAPS and has been featured since 2010. This is the one thing that I would really like to be added in Afterburner.

I want 1600p support, or at least recording in different res to what im playing at, decent quality, multi audio streams and faster (less performance hit) than dxtory with lagarith, as well as being able to output as direct show, for streaming with xsplit or w/e

Otherwise, whats the point?

The mere fact they are looking at it has me excited though, as I doubt they will take the time and money to do it, unless they are going to go all out and then use it as a selling point.

Still not out yet and some people even went as far as buying 7xx cards partly due to Shadowplay being an advertised feature.

However it's been stated that ShadowPlay Beta can be activated by adding -shadowplay to the Geforce Experience launch parameters... but it will only work once.
