Nvidia should do a buyback scheme for 2080ti owners

A cynic might suggest that this line of marketing is simply to sidestep any criticism of their top card costing so much. People seem to have bought into the "oh it's a Titan-equivalent so that's okay" line of thinking hook, line and sinker, yet Nvidia are allowing non-reference models with the word 'gaming' plastered all over them. I don't recall that ever happening with a Titan.

It did happen to some extent, one of the earlier titans came with a secondary heatsink you could put on it instead of the reference cooler. Think it was gigabyte that made that version. It was a sneaky way of getting around the no non reference designs. :p

The RTX 3090 is not a gaming card, its a compute card. Jensen made that pretty clear in the video when referring to the RTX 3080 as the flagship gaming card. People who have bought a RTX 2080Ti and are now considering going out and buying a RTX 3090 are insane, that's £2,700+ on graphics cards in 2 years.

The 2080Ti was never a good enough upgrade over a 1080Ti in the first place, it was what, a 30% upgrade for an increase of 70% in price? No thanks.

The new RTX 3080 on the other hand looks compelling, especially for those with lower rung 10 series cards and 980Ti owners. As always, we need to wait for third party benchmarks and reviews, particularly Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed.

not really just compute, he knows perfectly well there are plenty of gamers our there with deep pockets and will pick this up. The 3080 is the sensible Price to performance option it seems. The 3090 is for those who can't wait for the inevitable 3080Ti which will be more sensible and inevitable in the gap between the 3080 and 3090. Plenty of gaming nomenclature all over the Nvidia site for the 3090: https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/rtx-3090/

Plus, it features a staggering 24 GB of G6X memory, all to deliver the ultimate gaming experience.

8K HDR GAMING

Then entire rest of page talks about gaming oriented features, DLSS. They know Gamers will grab this just like there are plenty who always go for the best.

Got to love Hobib. Every time nvidia release new cards he is here asking some funky questions. I still remember when he was asking if he should buy 980 Ti Kingpins about a month or so before Pascal came out. I told him that was a bad idea, he proceeded to buy 2 of them, then came back crying about it once Pascal came out shortly after. Lol.

If I remember right he was asking about SLI with the 2000 series, he was told SLI is dead, I am not sure, but I think he went on to buy two 2080Ti’s :p

Now this :D

As a 2080Ti owner, I can't really sympathise and you should look at your gaming time and justify it that way. I will give mine away to my nephew when the 3080Ti is out and I feel no remorse.

For once I actually agree with you :P gonna mark this day in the calendar. I'm just joking, except that I do agree with you.

I own a 2080ti but I don't think they should do that. I've had 2 great years out of my card. Would I rather the Ampere cards weren't as good so my card was worth more? Not a chance, I'm all in for the new cards being as good as possible. Suck it up!

I bought 2x 2080 Ti's at launch and have absolutely zero regrets. Tech moves on and that's just the way it is, I've had 2yrs of great use out of these cards and got my monies worth from them.

If anyone bought them in the last few months then that's on you, plenty of warnings about new cards coming out.

RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 looks like a compelling upgrade for you depending on your price point, alternatively i'm sure you could pick up a deal on a used RTX 20 series card now :p

I did have a 1070 which was doing me fine, then it went pfuuut just after the warranty ran out. :(

I know what I'm gonna do, I'm not gonna sell my 2080ti because even if I got 500 I'd spend 200 on a card to get me by, so not worth it

I'm gonna get the 3090 because it's the next step up, I don't think the 3080 will have a significant improvement over the 2080ti

Jensen Huang nvidia founder: 3090 is a ferocious beast, a BFGPU

£1250 for a 2080ti and spending £1500 on the 3090 is a acceptable upgrade.

But if nvidia did do a buyback then that would be awesome and I bet everyone will take advantage of that.

Safe bet. Major off license dealing in up market wine use to have 'we will replace anything you do not like' offer.

Have you're cake, eat it, feel remorse half way through, get a new one.

Unsustainable model. Encourages returns, loss of profit, large quantities of worthless stock when you want large quantities of profitable stock walking out the door never to return.

The feel good sales pitch would seem to be 'titan for less' for those who spend high, or 80 80ti at a price level that's acceptable for the larger minority spending at the high end with a 10 series card.

Cut price titan plus significant cash back, who does not love a company in desperate need to sell and a fire sale?

Hopefully people will remember this feeling, and be less inclined to replicate the experience by buying overpriced GPUs in future?

Nah, who am I kidding :p

Yes. I had a first gen Titan, and was disappointed a few months after release when the 780Ti came out which was just as fast for quite a bit cheaper, although without some of the unlocked compute ability. Anyway, a few years down the line it went kaput just out of warranty, and I bought a 1070 which was quite a bit faster. 'Never again will I pay so much for something with a 3 year lifespan.' I skipped the 20 generation, but am tempted by the 3080 as I am also tempted by the Samsung G9 monitors, and I feel they would be a good match.

Im another vote for no sympathy.
The 2080 ti was always overpriced and people who bought it must off known this so I have no sympathy.

True. And unfortunately those that paid these silly prices have ultimately allowed Nvidia to charge everyone more. O wells.

Hopefully the RTX3080 can offer RTX2080ti performance at a price that is more acceptable.

Hmmm due to Jensen's personal fortune been more than the whole of the U.K, how about Nvidia offering a furlough scheme, so that 2080 ti cards can be kept in a spare draw or under the bed, whilst paying a lump sum towards a rtx 3090...

To help fund the scheme, Jensen could run a take away food scheme from his plush kitchen and deliver via Uber-eats.
