Nvidia Showcase: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is Drop Dead Gorgeous in 4K

Everyone ****ging off the trailer (that I haven't watched) - Have you seen the reviews that this is getting?!

Gamespot said:
There has never been a game in the series with such depth to its gameplay, or so much volume in content. The best elements from the past games are here, and the new open-world gameplay adds more to love on top. When it comes to storytelling, there has never been a Metal Gear game that's so consistent in tone, daring in subject matter, and so captivating in presentation. The Phantom Pain may be a contender for one of the best action games ever made, but is undoubtedly the best Metal Gear game there is.

There have certainly been sandbox action games that have given me a bigger world to roam, or more little icons to chase on my minimap, but none have pushed me to plan, adapt, and improvise the way this one does. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain doesn’t just respect my intelligence as a player, it expects it of me, putting it in league that few others occupy.

Early game play reviews I've read are putting this as having the potential to be one of the best games ever made. If the game play is that solid I couldn't give two ****s about a flat texture or what ever people are moaning about.

Great gameplay over looks everytime.

I was done with the fourth entry and subsequently wont be touching this, unless it somehow magically appears in my lap.

First of all, Open world and Stealth simply don't go together to well, that alongside the increasingly obvious desire to turn it into a shooter, kills it for me and as with MGS4 i imagine the story is now likely all fan-service and no depth.

With Kojima gone, hopefully this is the end of ruining this story.

Ohh and the Reviews... It is very tiresome, but they are about as credible as Hitler was at planning the war post-Stalingrad. (yep, going for that Godwin)

Spot on. Some of my favourite games are nothing special in the looks department but game play is awesome.

Didn't get very far through MGS 4 myself to be honest.

Why?

??

From what I played of Ground Zeroes (40+ hours), stealth wins everytime in this game

None of the Metal Gear series makes much sense, but the games themselves were generally very good. Kojima going isn't a good thing.

What are we saying now, Every reviewer is being paid money to say the game is good?!?

Even the Telegraph gave it a rave review, I don't think they are surviving on Konami's ad money.

This 100%

Haha What nonsense. So youre saying they paid off every single review site out there and this is all one big secret is it?

Think you dropped your tin foil hat there...

Of course that's what I'm saying. :o

How many times have we had games lately that score 9/10 or 10/10 and quite clearly aren't or they're broken on launch.

I'd rather wait for the people who won't get paid to do a honest review of it i.e Totalbiscuit or Angryjoe.

Yeah, it is kind of understandable as reviewers know that they are getting prerelease code so they kinda have to make an allowance... The other thing is that a lot of reviewers get a lead from the dev on what hardware and settings to run the game on, again could be hiding the majority of problems

Its not great and they should do a bit more testing and at least make a comment if the game appears to be in poor shape when they get it, but primarily a review is a review of gameplay, not really hardware or settings

Sites that do performance reviews are a better bet to see if stuff like multi card is working or if certain AA settings are borked, but those sites tend not to do them until after full release

As Vincent says below, most reviews are PS4 now so Im not talking about that Im talking about the quality of the game. You seem to think a dev can pay all the major review sites ,right across the board, and no one will ever find out? Sorry but no,not a chance. If this is right then there is a lot of people out there who dont work for the places the bribes took place anymore and refuse to say anything?

For those looking at this and turning up their noses, I genuinely pity you.

You haven't experienced the Metal Gear Solid saga and missed out on something truly amazing. There is nothing that compares to it in video games.

You actually have a point and here's why.

Konami only sent out review copies to a few select publications but not before having a closed door meeting.

I'm not a tin foil hatter but to me that just stinks.

I loved MGS4, it was a masterpiece but it was more of an interactive movie than just a game. very marmite for that reason.

This looks good, will be keeping an eye on it.
