Nvidia Showcase: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is Drop Dead Gorgeous in 4K

All the reviews are for the PS4 version so far. Best game ever made? Maybe for MGS fans but not everyone. A bit like how Dark Souls fans call that the best game ever, etc.

I like stealth games but can't understand the weirdness of this one. You hook a balloon to a vehicle but no one sees it go up? Hide in a cardboard box with a woman's pic and soldiers get fooled..

It revels in its stupidness and always has. They openly mock the hide in a box trick and this one has a flying fist that knocks people out. He actually touches on some good subjects but dosnt take himself too serious

Holy hell that's a lot.

Lets just hope the PC version isn't another Arkham Knight.

I hope it is another AK in truth, well from my perspective anyways.... That game was sweet for me on both AMD and Nvidia and whilst it was a nightmare for some, I didn't have a single crash or problem on the 2 play throughs and 84+ hours of play time :D

Loved it and hopefully I will enjoy this as much.

What games do you like, COD serious where you can take 10 rounds and magically heal yourself etc?

Most games have elements of exaggeration as this is what makes them fun. Unless fs stands for flight sims :) in which case I will give you that one!

The gameplay elements of MGS are a massive part of what makes it special, even if its not 100% realistic. These allow for a huge sandbox in terms of how you can approach a situation.

Also, try playing ground zeros on hard. A lot more realistic regarding lines of sight for guards, I'm betting the real game things like the cardboard box and fulton will not go as unnoticed.

I'm actually waiting for it to be patched at the end of this month, It runs like a dream on the FX and I've had a blast so far but there are a few places that even when I play on a 980 Ti I currently have access to the game doesn't load textures properly in quite a few places which for me just ruins the immersion :(

Also I hope it's vendor neutral so you can have all GFX settings dialed up without having to have Nvidia for a various Gameworks settings or not have a setting be selectable because you don't have an Nvidia card.

I play all sorts of games but mainly play League of Legends, RTS, RPG games like Witcher 3, Skyrim, DAI, etc and Flight sims :p.

I know most games are unrealistic but to me the Stealth genre should have good AI and the stealth part should feel real. Pointless being stealthy when the enemy can be oblivious to a massive truck flying up in front of them. I thought the stealth in Dishonored was well done.

I like the way you defend it by attacking something completely unrelated.

Even over the top can be fun but sometimes its just dross, can't really judge the game itself on a short cutscene but doesn't change the fact that cutscene is completely horrific and can't be excused as "crazy japenese-ness", etc.

Side note health regen in COD is for normal aka "I can win" modes the classic/hardcore mode doesn't have health regen, etc.

I simply pointed out that most games use exaggerated levels of realism. The MGS series has always had an odd weird Japanese sort of humor to the gameplay and funnily enough it is not my thing no matter how well it is done. I will still play it if the game play is there though.

And the Hardcore comment is also flawed. Take a round to the leg and still carry on as if nothing is wrong? We can all be pedantic ;)

Yeah I think this is the heavy Japanese influence within MGS.

The game looks like it'll be great, for sure. But I can't help but feel like the pre-release reviews should be taken with a large pinch of salt. Every one of them had some complaints, most frequently with the story and pacing (which is very important in MGS), yet those who were vocal about the game's shortcomings still gave it a 10/10. How can that be? If it has noticeable flaws then it's simply not a 10/10. So why did it get perfect scores?

The reviewers were treated to one of those review events, where they whisk a bunch of journos off to a swanky hotel so they can play the game for about 40 hours in an ideal setting with ideal circumstances and hype each other up, while being wined and dined on Konami's dime. They got to play small bouts of the controversial Forward Operating Base MP mode (i.e. the microtransaction store), but all without being able to note any of the advantages offered by MTs as they weren't available during the review event.

So don't bask in those 10/10s just yet lads. I have a feeling the finished product in the real-world will fall quite a bit short of that, if the actual wording in some of the reviews is anything to go by (not to mention the potential PTW scenario).

Perks can influence people to a degree and maybe you dont care about the game nor want to like it but how can you argue against so many 10's?

Reviewers get the wined and dined treatment all the time but rarely give such praise so what different?

I would even go as far as to say because of all the horrible things Konami do to thier employees and they way the creator of MGS was taken off all the boxes and credits,a lot of reviewers would have been WANTING this to be sub-standard

One can easily argue "against so many 10's" because the institution is fallacy, that needs to remove itself from existence.

Makes sense I guess, I mean who needs reviews when you can just gamble with £40 instead and go in blind. A lot of reviewers are just like us...fans of gaming,so of course they will get swept up in the hype and then when it settles down maybe they realise they overrated it. This is why I use reviews as a guide and ignore the score but for this game there is simply too many high scores for that to be the case
