Nvidia Users Beware, Latest Drivers May Damage Your PC

Genuinely sorry to hear the hassles/failures:(.

Reading through the comments however, apparently it's totally unrelated to this driver and we have to simply assume there is an awful lot of liars about as they didn't provide video evidence when installing the driver to provide 'proof' of these failures.

Had a lot of boot problems with this driver after it failed to install. Ended up going through the whole reseat your gfx card rigmarole.

I ended up putting the new beta drivers on from yesterday in safe mode and everything seems fine again.

My laptop is only 2 weeks old and is boxed up for an RMA smelling rather funky. It could be totally unrelated but laptop with smoke pouring out the back yesterday after an NV driver update, then I log onto here today and see this.

It could just be "The Improbability Principle" though.

vince that sucks :(
hope they rma fast for u
could you not get a replacement from the shop as its only been 2 weeks?

It was a custom built machine with quite a few little extras so I guess that the turnaround might take a while. I was much less concerned about the machine itself but am still seething as I had spent all day yesterday writing a project plan on it that I need for next Wednesday. I guess I will be re-writing that bit of work, everything else is backed up so that's not an issue.

These things happen and not every bit of hardware or software is bullet proof, I just wish I had seen this yesterday and then it "might" have been preventable, again this may or may not be related to this and could just be a random hardware failure, if that is the case it picked its timing to perfection :(

Black screen boot issue for me with my kids computer after updating drivers. Third attempt at re-boot got visual artefacts in bios.

Card appears burnt out.

Was an old 560ti, just put it down to age before reading about issues. Correlation is not causation, so may be unrelated but not very happy about it not the best time to have to buy a new card.

It's quite shocking how these things get passed driver QA tbh
Burning out GPUs should be top on any list of checks?

Feel bad for anyone effected by this. Hopefully your covered by warranty.

doesnt sound unrelated to me :(
some news site will investigate before long im sure
maybe if enuff stink kicked up some people will get their cards replaced i duno
doesnt seem very fair its not like you did anything wrong

I had a weird problem where basically all of the options had disappeared from the NVIDIA Control Panel. Everything was fine after installing the driver but as soon as I rebooted my PC all the options disappeared except the one for stereoscopic 3D and I think compatibility with games. Even completely wiping the drivers in safe mode and reinstalling didn't help.

I've rolled back to 361.91 and it seems to be ok now, although I'm still not convinced they won't disappear again.

This is with Win10 64bit and 780 SLI (I haven't made any hardware changes for ages and have never had this issue before).

Sooo..what drivers should one download please ?

Running on 362.00. No issues. From several years ago I always do custom/clean installs, so if I had installed those dodgy drivers (I didn't) then it wouldn't have affected my system (apparently). Learnt my lesson after an express installation went horribly wrong.

I feel the exact same, maybe Nvidia and AMD both use the same QA when AMD burned out cards using Crimson drivers.

Deflection won't make it 'better' for those affected, they won't be  anymore.

Nv must be on their third or fourth muck up, AMD have mucked up once, all of them are inexcusable.:(

Rhetoric :p

One of those muck ups (320.18 IIRC) to be fair only occurred when you had a toxic cocktail of a specific driver set, a tweak tool that changed settings that aren't normally exposed to the end user and certain GPU loads that in most cases only happened with bitcoin based malware.

Another (267.xx ?) only happened with a specific GPU (GTX590) after the end user increased voltage or a higher end overclock if you had a very good overclocking card - under normal conditions you wouldn't fry a GPU.

Will be interesting to see how many are actually affected this time under normal conditions.
