Nvidia Users Beware, Latest Drivers May Damage Your PC

I had an issue with my TV being my second monitor as it was connected via HDMI and the connector to the graphics card become VERY hot and crashed me PC (hardlock)

I knew the second monitor was to blame as I only just connected it before it happened and was 100% reproducible too. Haven't tried again with the beta that came out late yesterday but I did have a random crash last night using the previous set (again) which hardlocked my PC.

I got bitten by this one. I upgraded yesterday and immediately noticed that my mouse wouldn't appear on my right hand monitor (I run 3x 27" in surround on a racing simulator). Didn't think much of it as it still ran games fine. Today I got around to trying to sort it out and ended up in a world of driver crashes, BSODs and blinking screens whenever I attempted to go near nVidia control panel.

I managed to rollback to 362.00 and everything is now fine again. The whole 'fries graphics cards' is obviously hyperbolic BS. Did a 10 year old write that article?

Right i finally fixed my issue! It appears i created a issue upon a issue cos turns out IM AN ISSUE!! So when i started boot looping i tried clearing my Cmos not knowing what caused it until i read on what could cause it. I thought well crap what changed in my system recently n all i know is i got a couple of updates and the driver being one.

Anyway cut long story short clearing the Cmos some how corrupted my bios!!! I managed to get this fixed by resorting to my backup bios and flashing the corrupted one. Lost all my overclocks and everything lol. Anyway booted in safe mode and used DDU and then revert back back to the driver i have downloaded from another time 361.75 and now things are back to normal!

Id avoid this new driver 364.47 to be on the safe side.

Panic over for me as i thought i had a dead pc when it wouldn't even get to the bios lol.

So glad you got it sorted. I hate being in those situations. :)

Same kinda thing happened with the Crimson drivers. Not one shred of evidence that a card had been killed, fried or anything else. Clickbait and wind up toys just to fuel the fires of hate.

Glad you got your drivers sorted. :)

You mean one tick box in control panel . yes that's sinples

Only it isn't that simple - the option changed (google images "windows 10 device installation settings" there are 3 different (historical) versions of it and the older one with more options has gone) and its behaviour now is far less predictable (still not sure if its buggy or intended functionality) - seems to still largely work for people who've not touched the setting since the change but for new installs, etc. Windows still sometimes pushes through driver updates at times unless you then manually block the specific update for that driver and even that isn't 100% reliable i.e. if it gets pushed again with a slight revision (or use 3rd party tools).

Then later when you get your pc working again your like OHHH come to daddy don't ever scare me like that again!

362.00 here, absolutely fine. I did download both the previous ones, my mate has the .51 with no issues but I opted out of installing it, even though it apparently helps performance in The Division?

They've had a few chuffers that's for sure, but I've managed to skip them somehow. Mainly I think because I just forget to update the drivers :p

So what's the kill count so far then? 0?

I think its -1 now as someone installed the new drivers and they magically re soldered some broken joints and repaired a few capacitors. Its amazing really that a driver can do all that :p

Its only hearsay though so dont believe a word of it :)

Probably unrelated but my laptop with a 970m set itself on fire yesterday not long after this driver update. Proper smoke out of the back jobbie and the smell of burning.
