NVIDIA Volta with GDDR6 in early 2018?

But you have to wait like 9 months for a Ti to come after a Titan.

Had my XP since launch which seems like ages now. . .

Titans hold their money better too. ;)

Sure. But I'd buy ti to ti. Much better value.

Realistically I'd buy ti skip a generation then buy the next.

But if you go from ti to ti your getting titan performance at a cheaper price.

Kicking myself for not getting the TX Pascal when it launched last year August.

Decided to wait and wait, and wait. Would have been done and dusted with a massive performance improvement.

Now I'm waiting for Volta Titan.

You just reminded me of Forest Gump.

That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going. When I got tired, I slept. When I got hungry, I ate. When I had to go... you know... I went.

In your case:

That day, for no particular reason, I decided wait for Vega. So I waited for some news until the end of the week. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd wait until end of the month. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just wait until H1 2017. And I figured, since I waited this long, maybe I'd just wait until SIGGRAPH. And that's what I did. I waited for one whole year! For no particular reason I just kept on waiting. I waited like there is no tomorrow. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just keep on waiting for 14th August. When Vega finally came out, I figured, since I'd waited this long, I might as well just wait a bit more, keep right on waiting for Volta Titan! When I got tired, I slept. When I got hungry, I ate. When I had to go... you know... I went.

:p:D

So volta wont be releasing to consumers anytime soon. Straight from jenson. Pascal is too strong. Sounds like a pascal refresh then.

Still say March 2018 at the latest, maybe by end of the year I'm expecting.
NV need to keep on developing for their other markets and customers so delaying a Volta consumer GPU because Pascal is strong I don't think will be the case otherwise we'll end up getting Volta towards the end of if's lifecycle. Makes sense to cash in on the Volta design. Right now NV could probably charge £1300+ for a Volta Titan as it'll be untouchable by the competition.

reading the posts it sounds likee you guys want to upgrade for the sake of upgrading.

Frequent hardware updates = bad for consumer
Infrequent hardware updates = good for consumer.

Also the higher the frequency the lower chance of a big performance jump. There is an argument e.g. if intel only updated 1/2 as often then the performance gap between each product would be doubled over what it is now.

I would love it if volta didnt come until 2020 as an example, as games would be made to run well on pascal for longer and I can feel good about having nvidia's latest chip for longer :)

Just how I am.

Well we don't like your kind around these ways. We buy a Titan X, then upgrade that to a 1080 and then upgrade that to a 1080Ti/New Titan again! :p

I see where you are coming from though. Depends on how much gaming one does or how much they enjoy new hardware. Horses for courses. No wrong or right way really. There are a few though who just have the best, but if that makes them happy, why not? :)

I think everyone enjoys new hardware in their rig including myself, sadly my wallet hates it tho. :)

Ironically I was impatient for pascal as I didnt like how well my gtx 970 ran, had to use a modded bios to stop crashes but it made it have aweful power efficiency, I couldnt justify buying another 970 to fix the problem, so the 1070 gave me an excuse to get rid. :)

:)

cue the people saying its not a ridiculous requirement to get in.

mind you its not in ocuk's interest to make that section easy to access as could reduce their sales.
I don't mind at all. I think the requirements are sensible. And I never buy secondhand PC parts any way..:)

I don't understand this "logic".

If a company updates on yearly cycle you (the consumer) can choose to update on a 2 yearly cycle. You just skip a generation.

If a company updates on a two-yearly cycle then you (the consumer) have no choice to update on a yearly cycle.

With more frequent updates people can choose to upgrade or not. It's not like anybody is holding a gun to your head saying "Achtung! You must update every time ze new gen comes along!"
