I stayed round the corner from there, not that hotel but the New Yorker was outside my window too.

thought it was a great central location.
i got a good deal through expedia for £757 for a week plus £100 quidco

I stayed at TRYP, $1500 for 5 nights....at the time of exchange rate was £1200. £757 for a week is a steal for Manhattan.

I'll be staying here in Feb; http://www.theroosevelthotel.com/ and I cannot wait. They've got what looks to be a pukka bar on the 19th or 20th floor called Mad46 - check it out. Think we'll be having a drink or two up there!

Try Housetrip.com thats what I use when I visit NYC. Unlike airbnb you dont normally stay with the host.

I used Airbnb to visit last week, stayed in an apartment in Hell's Kitchen 5-10 minute walk to Broadway and Times Square. Think it worked out about £130 per night though thinking about it.

Stayed in The Belleclaire for five nights a few weeks ago. Very nice, nice neighbourhood but very easy to get into midtown and what not. Seven minute walk to the natural history museum and Central Park.

Yeah I went for The Roosevelt hotel, listed above from Ske! £350 for four nights, couldn't complain really!

Not sure when you booked for, but Priceline could have done the same for £322, and you'd get 9.9% Quidco cash back at the moment, saving you another chunk.

We stayed at NoMo SoHo. Though IIRC it was about £140 a night, view was lovely though.

The mini bar bill at the end, not so much :/

As others have said, try an AirBNB. I done them in a few places now, and a mate who decided to come to NYC last minute with us done it in NYC. He saved a fortune compared to us who got a hotel. Infact I wouldn't book a hotel anymore without checking out AirBNB.

Not sure why it would be illegal. It's just holiday rentals really. With the understanding the owner has all the correct paperwork within their laws.
