Quick Question for those of you going to put an 02 simplicity sim in a V2. What do you do about data rates? I'm assuming there isn't an unlimited data plan in the simplicity range?

Panzer

You can get unlimited net for £7.50 a month, or if you're on the £25+ a month tariff you can pick unlimited net as your 'free' bonus.

As above but the web is not unlimited. I think the limit is 200-250MB.

Will the PAYG be out a different time to the rest?

It wont be £99 surely?

Read the thread, the £99 is subsidised for signing up to the iPhone contract in store. The PAYG price will be considerably more, but hasn't been released yet.

There's no way it'll be £99 on PAYG. If that were the case, no-one would buy one with a contract - which is where O2 are going to be making their money. It'd be commercial suicide.

I think you have to wait until you are near the end of your contract and then 02 will contact you with details.

Yup. With the old iPhone O2 allowed you to break your contract early if your contract started in april 2007 (like mine). They are not allowing it this time.

I think what I'll do is get a second £35/month contract with O2 for the iphone and drop my current £35 a month contract down to £15/month for the remaining few months i have left on it (october the 22nd my contract expires). :o

Ouch. :(

Thats why I like 02 simplicity, no contract.

Just stick with your current one! Or the bay!

Nah, I love 3g, it was the only thing holding me back from buying V1.

It's only going to cost me £60 in contract fees if I drop to £15 a month untill my existing O2 contract runs out. It's not much.

glad i held off getting an iphone the other week, cant wait for o2 to let me know when i can order one of these :) 16gb version for me

£35p/m for 18 months + £159 = £789

£25p/m for 18 months and assuming it is £329 = £772

Not much in it really. Depends on weighing up the text/calls/data usage.

For me, again assuming the PAYG price, it would be £25 for 12 months (until v3 prehaps) then the price of the handset (8GB), £269 = £569.

Think I will have to work out whether £35 p/m + £159 is going to work out cheaper than £25 p/m + the cost of PAYG 16GB iPhone.

Panzer

£35p/m + £159 = 789

£25p/m + x = Y

£25 x 18 = £450

£789 - £450 = £339

Therefore X has to be less than £339 for it to be worth going for getting it on PAYG. There is a slight chance of it coming out at £329 (like the previous) iphone i suppose but my guess is that it is slim as back then Apple were still counting on people signing up on a contract as well as the £329 they put down on the phone.

edit - damn, beaten to it !

Some of us did the maths in our heads to come up with around 400quid for the PAYG version ;)

This is all assuming it uses a standard PAYG tarrif and they're not going to bring out special iPhone only PAYG tarrifs.

PAYG tariff? It doesn't have a tariff.

EDIT: right, yea but I dont think that anyone will actually use the PAYG, they will just unlock it and shove another SIM in there so the PAYG 'tariff' is irrelevant.

Well I just put it to 15 of my mates,

None of them could either afford the contracts, or they use WAY more than the one they can afford would give.

When I asked them if they would get a £269 8gb or £329 16gb on PAYG they would get it.

Otherwise not because its just not worth it.

So I think for apples "more affordable" thing hasn't got them anywhere in my demographic atleast, and really, thats where most of the people who want them are.

Im going to stick with £269/£329 PAYG IMO.

Some might like to factor in the reduction of hassle in having it on a legitimate contract than unlocking it and potentially having an issue everytime software updates are released. Plus you get free wifi and visual voicemail as an added bonus!

If ZiPhone can do it, then unlocking will be easy peasy, 5 minutes. Not enough hassle to warrant not getting PAYG and unlocking.
