Oblivion Peformance So Far

I didnt say it was CPU-limited, only that it scales very well and noticeably so with increased CPU speed. The statements do not contradict each other at all simply because the proof of them are logical and there for all to see. The game scales very well with CPU power due to the intensive AI/shadows etc AND has almost double performance with SLI/crossfire outdoors where it is graphically very intensive, it makes perfect sense. Can't argue with the benchies my friend! :)

I have a problem with framerate when coming outdoors from a dungeon. Usually I get 20-30 fps outside and 55-75 indoors at 1280x960. When I come outdoors framerate drops to 4-8fps. If I alt-tab out of the game and then back in immediately it goes back up to 20-30fps (although this occasionally causes the game to stop responding).

Any ideas on how to sort this out without using the alt-tab workaround?

By the way - I know the CPU's holding me back but I'm saving for a new one. Don't want to overclock because I'm enjoying having a stable PC after the nightmare that my old Barton rig became.

Current specs below.

A64 3000+ @ stock (CnQ disabled in BIOS), ASROCK 939DualSata2, Sapphire X1800XT 256mb, 2GB RAM, Audigy 2, WinXP SP2, Seagate 120GB 7200.7 IDE Drive, Hiper Type R 480w PSU
