OC E6850 - 3400Mhz too much to ask on air?

3.825GHZ with Volts at Auto 1.525v (with or without vdroop dont matter) or 3.9GHZ @ 1.55v for my max stable of this quiet Noctua NH-U12F+ faster fan.

Also ran a lower Multi and 1900FSB (475x4) with Memory Linked/Sync'd at 950mhz, but CPU and Memory wont go higher even unlinked as seems a large FSB Hole in this bios at that range (1303 by far best Ive ran).

Thanks for the info....would it be better for me to use BIOS 1303 rather than 1305? Also, would you recommend me using the lower multi?

**EDIT**
What RAM voltage were you running?

I have tried using 8x multiplyer with 1900 FSB but no POST. increased VCore but did not help.....plus...I might be missing something...after setting it to 8x475 and trying to boot....when it failed I went into the BIOS and it was stating 2.66Ghz? Am I missing something here? Definately inputted 8 x multiplyer and 1900FSB.....

1305 is a total POS if you read the forums all over web you will hear that story, some even nuked their eprom with it, I had issues botting up after flashing to it (not sure why, never had issues ever on any mobo).

I could not even boot out of bios with a 1700FSB with any amount of volts on 1305.

Memory should run 1000mhz with 4:4:4:12/2T @2.1v (did on my AM2 Rig) but wont go by that hole with any voltage same as CPU wont so can only assume hole in bios and hope for fix next build.

Above 1800FSB you will need up the NB and SB voltages and may need mess with the other 2 and make sure you lock the PCI-E and HT Buses.

Kill all the settings in bios to do with speedstep and Spectrum crap.

Thanks for the advice....do you know where I can download the 1303 bios? Tried looking on Asus but only 1301 then 1305...tried googling but still no joy :mad:

**EDIT** Found 1303...will be getting that flashed asap!!

Wow what a day! Trying everything in the book now!

I am now using BIOS 1303, which seems a little better....I hoped that it would make a world of difference but no such luck! But has helped me go that little step further so I am grateful to 'helmutcheese' for that call.

I am now stable @ 3700Mhz (I have done just over 4 hours of a blend test using Orthos but will run it overnight just to make sure :D)

Going up to 3.7 hasn't really increased my temps either so hoping that won't be an issue.

My settings are:

VCore 1.493v
HT 1.65v
NB 1.5v
SB 1.55v
CPU VTT 1.45v
RAM 1.95v
PCI-E 101Mhz
RAM Timings 5-5-5-15
FSB 1645 (9x mp)

Will be trying 3.825Ghz (1700FSB) tomorrow.....

Again, thanks to everyone so far for all the help...any more help wouldn't go a miss though ;):rolleyes:

Well done!!

Even if it fails 3.7Ghz it's still a lot faster than 3.4Ghz you originally expected. Though I don't see why it won't do 3.7 with a bit of voltage boost.

Not such a good day today! Firstly...went with my other half to look for a car for her...all bloody day around Southampton....did we come back with one...did we bloody 'ell!

Then on top of this, came back thinking "oh I will just up that VCore and get 3.7 stable".......no such luck...did not get into an hour of a blend test....so I thought it might be an FSB hole as stated before so went straight for the 425x9 (3825Ghz)....after a bit of fiddling with the voltages got it to bootup but after 10 minutes in XP it BSOD

I tried upping the VCore to 1.525 but as soon as I upped it to that I went past POST no probs but XP did not load and I got either a DOS error saying system file corrupt or NTFS.sys BSOD error but as soon as I reduced FSB and VCore all was OK...Bloody Windows!

One thing I have found with this Striker board is it seems to not like to much tweaking of either the VCore or RAM voltages....is that just me or has anyone else found this?

I am just about out of ideas and may well admin that 3650Mhz is my last Very stable Core speed and run @ 3.6 daily.....obviously happy seeing as I was having issues getting 3150Mhz only a week ago but still....thought I was on a roll :D:mad:

Just in case any one has any ideas...my settings which got me into XP for 10 minutes @ 3825Mhz were:

VCore 1.5v
HT 1.6v
NB 1.5v
SB 1.6v
CPU VTT 1.45v
RAM 2.05v
PCI-E 101Mhz
RAM Timings 5-5-5-15
FSB 1700 (9x mp 425)

Hi GMAN. Andy Here! Been a while :)

Sounds like you're doing OK. REMEMBER THIS.....when you started this thread a couple of weeks ago you came openly admitting you weren't sure what you were doing.... now you're sounding like a pro :D

You've been stable at 3.6GHz which is a full 1.2GHz faster than stock which I think is bloody fantastic. You've certainly learned a hell of a lot in what takes some people months (some thanks to our advice of course).

Anyway, thought I'd wish you continued good luck and share my latest clock with you seeing as we got our CPU's at the same time...Brace yourself mate :D :

Andy thats 2 of you have said something along those lines.

His CPU is a E6850 and runs 3.0GHZ stock, he aint overclocked it a addition 1.2GHZ.

You are both thinking about E6600's

Spot on :D

Would be nice getting a 1.2Ghz increase on a E6850

Still trying!!

Thanks for the shoulder slap though Andy....always good to hear I can talk the talk even though i'm clueless most of the time! :D:rolleyes:

Well done on the OC though...over 1.6 increase....badaboom!!!!

I was talking more about the mobo and settings mate. I know exactly what Gmans chip is. (Used to run OcUK Tech Dept.):D

Funny you say that....been reading up on it :D:D

Been thinking if it were best to buy a kit for my first try...might go for one of those kits without water blocks included and buy them separately...
