Octopus Power Ups and Free Energy Sessions

Are you sure you didn’t have IO charging during the baseline period this time?

I specifically avoided this one because I regularly get charge slots in the mornings during that time.
I did however I have in past ones too. end of the day free power is free power (allegedly) and even at 7p a kWh I would still have been expecting around £1.50 back not 13p.

Well, they have reduced the rewards now, so I don't see the point any more.
not sure I get you. (edit it dawned on me as I was typing :) ) it was a free power period so the reward was always the same.... what ever you paid over and above your usual use got refunded. it wasn't one of those slots where they pay you to use less, it is the opposite where they want you to use more

I don't really understand it myself, but I got an email through from them today saying that they have reduced the rewards in their scheme by 75%. I assume they mean the cash payments for NOT using electricity rather than the free sessions.

so I was expecting 7p initially (so I would get around £1.50 back) however the last time I charged during a free session , I actually did get the double whammy of paid 7p and got the full amount back.
I’m referring g to the calculation of your baseline. If you had OI slots in the past week at the same time as the savings session, your baseline will not be zero and the payback will be calculated at the electricity cost on the day e.g. 25p not 7p.

I don't think I have ever charged in that time period before , certainly not at weekend. I do my charging in the evening (usually after the house battery is flat in winter in the hope of a bunus slot or 2)

You're in the wrong thread, this thread is for power ups or free sessions, where your either charged nothing, or refunded the difference when you use MORE than normal.

What they've reduced is the rewards for saving sessions, where they would reward you for using LESS than usual.

Free electricity tomorrow, 7-9am.
ok so octopus got back to me regarding my missing payment for the 2 hrs on Sunday the 24th and I am confused.
they are telling me it was a saver session not a free energy session and I did the exact opposite of what I should have done.
surely this is not correct.

email says

Thank you for getting in touch and sharing your concerns about the Free Electricity session on Sunday, 24th November. I appreciate the detailed explanation and the image you provided—it’s really helpful in understanding your situation.

Let me explain how the credits for these sessions are calculated:

Based on our records, your baseline usage for that time slot is usually close to zero because of your house battery. This means that during the session, when you actively used around 20 kWh to charge the battery, run appliances, and charge your car, it didn’t result in any savings compared to your normal usage. As a result, you didn’t qualify for a significant credit.
