OcUK Dadsnet thread

Just keep repeating your punishments (although as a side note, I would never use physical punishment to deal with bad behaviour like climbing on furniture). We use a naughty-step for bad behaviour. Option b) make the furniture immovable.
I'd never hit a two year or raise my voice to them unless alerting them to danger all your doing is teaching them it's alright to hit and yell. He isn't doing it to be naughty he's doing it because it's fun and it gets him attention every new thing is exciting when your a kid! He will get bored of it soon enough and move onto something else just be calm and consistent or screw the bed to the wall, equally importantly if he is a climber ensure the chest of draw is fixed to the wall and can't fall on him.

Anyone got tips on how to get toddler (3 in April) to clean up toys regularly? 5 mins after tidying up the place is a complete mess again

I've got a 7-month old. Literally no idea what I used to do with all of my free time and money. :o

My daughter is also 7 months and i know exactly how you feel. I used to travel into London for work but recently moved more local so in fact i should have more spare time but it doesn't feel that way.

Ok guys my 2 year old is now moving his toddler bed next to his chest of drawers, it's a Malm 3 drawer from Ikea. He moves it next to the drawers and proceeds to climb on the drawer unit. I have told him off and what not telling him NO and generally doing what parents don't do in public, (slap on legs etc) yet he still continues to do it. Anyone had this and what would you suggest to? To be fair i would imagine it's the terrible twos but I swear he went through thats at 1 year old.

I think it goes without saying really, that you shouldn't be hitting a child in any form. There are better ways to teach a child.
Obviously if the drawers arent attached to a wall I think that should be priority number one before they kill him, other then that then it is naughty step, and rewards for not doing it (BUT NOT FOOD). You basically have to make it worth his while to not be a pain in the butt.

I didnt think rear facing seats were adjustable?

Ah, I'm sorry, missed the rear facing bit.

Reward chart and stickers. Works well but has to go both ways IMO - they get a sad sticker or a dark shade star sticker if they've not done as asked. Then over the top "OMGZ!!! You're so clever!" when they've done really well. :)

Best thing for my youngest is the naughty step. She'll have a bit of a meltdown going on but doesn't seem to move off it and we have a rule that she doesn't come off until she's quite and calm. Just don't forget you've put them on there, it happens :D

By far the safest thing for a newborn. Highly recommended, but it takes up two rear seats.

That looks interesting, I've not seen one like that before. Pretty much just the flat part of a pram strapped into a car. Works well with our car not having isofix though.

Not many places seem to sell it, I've found it at mothercare for £199.

Telling them if they dont keep it tidy they get chucked in the bin worked with our two. Now they do it without any complaint. (4yr and 7yr). Everytime they have friends round or their cousins the place gets in a tip as its obvious they get away with it at their home yet our two generally keep the lounge tidy and immediately tidy up when you tell them.

Tried secondhand?

Buying this stuff new is crazy expensive, especially as this one is only needed for a few months. Our son grew out of his after 6 months or so, but he's big.

I wouldn't buy any car seats second-hand unless you personally know the person who is selling it - you've got no idea if it's been well looked after or in an accident.

Talk to me about car seats for a newborn. What do you all recommend? Car doesn't have ISOFIX. We were thinking of a base which was fastened into the car using the seatbelt so we could lift the chair in and out?

We bought a 5 piece Solar2 system from M&P which came with a car seat which is suitable from birth to around 10 months, you fix it via the seat belts and it was very good. Its also comes with extender clips so you can clip it straight onto the Solar2 stroller base which was very useful.
We didn't have ISO Fix either but the seat belt option still works perfectly well as long as you strap it in correctly (take a few goes to get it right)

True. Our Safe Sleeper was from a respectable Norwegian family (turned out the dude was a friend of a friend, and Anders Fogh Rasmussen's right-hand man at NATO) and was in mint condition (used twice I think)

Our Maxi Cosi was also in excellent condition, even though it was 2 years old. There's not much to go wrong with one of those and to be fair for €50 you can't go wrong when they're still €200 in the shops.

As for what we use now, we bought out Concord Reverso Plus new for this very reason. That, and it was a new model so wasn't available second-hand.

I guess that's the difference buying through small ads and eBay. eBay you've no idea at all unless you go round to pick it up, and by then it's too late..

Are baby was due on the 9th, mrs is going in tomorrow morning to be induced. Finally going to meet my little man! We expected him to arrive on the 4th, how wrong was we lol.

A friend of mine told me he allows his son (4 years old) to play GTAV. He apparently only allows the driving parts with the voices turned off, but since he has a PS4 in his own room I don't see how he can control him. Trouble it his son sees him play and wants to join in so he allows it to avoid any hassle.

Finding it hard not to say anything tbh but it's none of my business really. Just seems so wrong...

Just a bit. I dont mind my 3 year old playing driving games (that dont involve people being run over) but tbh she would rather watch frozen.

My little boy is 1 this week but we haven't introduced him to ipads or iphones yet. I know he is a bit young but we don't want him to be obsessed to something like that. I know of friends that have but their kids just seem to be fixed on them like zombies and even have fits when they are taken away or need charging.
We prefer him to play with his toys and watch cartoons for as long as possible before being introduced to electronics.......are we just old fashioned?

We had this problem, however we put on the 'tidy up song' (sounds daft I know but works, as they do this at his nursery) as it does help. Just look on the well known tube site and search for a tidy up song.
