OcUK Dadsnet thread

my youngest has got hand foot mouth disease. The whole of half term has been rubbish for my eldest who had all these plans to go places but cos this hfmd is contagious they've had to stay at home.
It's such a faff isn't it, our 1yo had it recently. Turns them into absolute whining machines, if they weren't already.

My son is teething, has an ear infection and the antibiotics are giving him the squits.

Yay parenthood! :D

Ha, we have had exactly the same, albeit with a cold and chest infection too. Antibiotics are finished now, and he finally slept until 0615 today. How old is yours? Ours was 1 on the 17th Oct.

Haven’t got kids, but just watching something on telly and wondering.

Do any of you guys use reusable nappies for your babies? If so, is it an environment thing or a cost issue?

I can’t get my head around the washable nappies. Seems a really horrible job compared to the ease of disposable.

we are using re-usable nappies for our 19month old and have done since birth (apart from nursery where he wears disposables)

my wife wanted to for environmental reasons (i thought it better not to argue against her) she doesnt most of the cleaning up, but it can be pretty nasty!

we have apparently saved money, but with the amount of washing they need im not 100% sure we have!

Today has been an experience.

In our town there is a nice shoe shop for kids. Just typically one person serving (the owner) and space for 2 customers with child or two. It's a small shop.

Went in today at 11:58. Parents getting shoes for their 3 year old. Shoes everywhere, looks like they are deciding on a pair....

I lost count of the number of irritating things this couple did during their time in the store. Completely indecisive, the bloke wanted the kid to have a pair the others didn't like because 'they would look great at the Christmas markets''. Bought shoes almost, stopped the transaction. Carried on looking at more shoes keeping the attendants attention. She also made no effort to acknowledge us. Decided they needed to come back to the store later with the store vouchers they had forgotten etc to get a discount of another pair they had decided. But would buy one pair now. Then decided to check if current shoes being worn still fitted. Then looked at other shoes to replace ones worn. All after buying a pair, and saying they would be back on a couple of hours

Then 35mins of waiting patiently, just as I think they are going..the guy sees another pair of shoes and says they are nice (wife reminds him he said he didn't like them originally..even I remember that!). Attendant says, do you want to try them on? Yes sure...

Up I get and head to the door. The mother looks and at least says 'sorry'. I reply, politely but with a clear tone of disgust, 'we have a day to get on with, this comedy sketch has gone too far'

Maybe I'm not patient enough?!?

No that's irritating, kids can't wait around forevr

14 month old currently doing the ‘I’m exhausted, but will fight going to sleep with every sinew of my being’ thing. She’ll literally just nod off, then bring herself round shouting ‘Da-da-da-da-da’ and blowing raspberries to keep herself awake. This has been going on for about 2 hours, and she’s done this what has to be at least 10 times now. Is there literally anything more frustrating than a tired and cranky baby that resolutely refuses to go to sleep?

I'm away with work for weeks and missing the lads 3rd birthday today. Gutting. However, since they don't know what day of the week it is, we had a "birthday" for him a week ago. Then he has a party today followed by another party with nursery friends next month  better social life than me, and more birthdays than the Queen!

Soo my daughter (4 ) has had a bit of a cold of recent, she had yesterday off and spent it in bed.

This morning she crept into my bed and cuddled in, I thought this nice bar the ice cold feet (from her mother)...

About a minute latter, she says her belly hurts...

10 secs later I'm covered in vomit...

Ah the joys of parenting....

Sick in the bed is the worst. I just walk off and the wife deals with it.

Were trying to potty train George at the minute 4 in February. It's not going well at all, he was devastated when he had an accident on the carpet, full log in the middle of the living room.
He just really doesn't like going on the potty.

You've got to laugh it off. My son didn't have any accidents like that, just wet ones. My daughter did it once in the bath except it was like a series of rabbit droppings. She also was devastated but I found it rather funny. When you come to train them in bed, we bought a bed wetting alarm as we (my mrs) were fed up of changing sheets multiple times and it took him 2 weeks and he was dry.

If you makes you feel any better I wet the bed into my early teens :cry:

Taking my boy (6)to the cinema today. I'm hoping he lasts the full 86m run time. He doesn't ever at home when we put films on.

Saw The Croods 2 A New Age which was probably more fun for me than him. His attention whaned early on and was a fidget bum. The tickets were cheap but my god an Icee and a bucket of popcorn £11.50 no wonder people don't go.

I was considering taking our daughter, who's 4 and a half, to the cinema tomorrow for the first time. I don't think she's got the attention span to last an hour and a half without getting bored and I'm very much cinsiwdoing something else instead.

I think at this age, it's better to do something physical with them to hopefully tire them out, so you get a rest when at home. I imagine she will come out of the cinema ready to crawl the walls after having to sit still for so long.
