I dont know if its been mentioned in this thread, but i think a lifting of the hardline no mentioning of competitors should be looked at.

I have no problem (i am sure most people are the same), about not talking about direct computer related competitors, but since you do not sell games, when in the context such as a bargain comes up, and people would like to share that information with others, I do not see that it would lose the company money by allowing this.

A lot of bad feeling in the console gaming forum was generated by the hardline ruling coming in, the staff would be in a better position to say if it actually affected the sales of your gaming consoles and peripherals, but im guessing you probably dont sell too many of these anyway, for no other reason than its not the place people go to look.

With that in mind, would you look at relaxing the rule in the console section? Perhaps there could be a thing added to posts if someone is posting a link, similar to the members market, just reminding people that overclockers do sell these things, and to have a look there before visiting another site, it can surely only be beneficial in the long run to the company.
 
An awful lot of sense being made in this thread.

MM needs to be tighter to get in, much tighter really as I know that I could get a MM account within a day with the post count limit if I really wanted to.

Could do with a complete FAQ overhaul too, beefing out with more information on the rules and how they apply as it is very vague in some of its points and glances over quite a few important issues all too quickly, or negates them completely as is the case with MM.
 
No, but it may be one in the same thing? I believe it is the same time period at least. What I am (trying) to describe is the time when you leave it that new posts no longer become new.
 
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already.... but the removal of the 'Roll eyes' smilie will mean people will have to use their wit in discussion, for once :p ;)

I'd love to see...


Technical issues:
- Private messaging enabled. I'd love to be able to take discussions elsewhere when it only affects me and one other person.
- Thread preview. I've seen this on other forums where you hover your mouse pointer over the thread title and you can see a preview of the opening post. Saves time when people post vague title topics.
- User created polls. Having run a big forum in the past, I know this can put a large strain on the server. It would be nice to have as an end user though.

Moderation/community issues:
- A relaxation on the competitor rules. I can see the point in the PC-related forums, but when you can't mention where you got a video game or a DVD it's a bit silly. I know of all your competitors and I still shop at OCuk. :)
- Please, please, please don't create too many sub-forums! Too many sub-forums ruins the sense of community.
- Keep the Muslim/immigrant threads in SC

But what if said company were advertising, say, a special offer on a mouse or gaming headset, on every page perhaps, which someone was thinking about buying at ocuk, but decided for whatever reason (cheaper price, not wanting to pay shipping costs twiceetc) to buy at the competitor instead

Thats not what i mean, there are companies, that we all know that really stick to games, an asian company that does region free games, high street stores that no one in their right mind would be a pc peripheral from.
 
I think a certain review website beginning with H should be un-starred... Even though I've had a read up about some events that may have happened, I don't think you should star their name out... seems a bit petty to be honest :(

Indeed, the console forums were always very good to pick up bargains e.t.c, that's something I really do miss.
