OcUK Forums Changes

think this will get swapped with the other 14 pages, but ill suggest anyway

please can we see a relaxation on the competitior rules. I wholeheartedly agree that promoting other companys products, and playing prices against OcUK is completely out of order

but can we please not insult our intelligence with the refusal to allow us to mention places that in turn may or may not stock something that OcUK sells ?

a prime example of this is the well known internet retailers that sell computer games. time and time again we'll discuss where we got the latest pre-order on x console or z game but we're not allowed to say where just in case they go to that website to look at the game, and happen to find they sell hardware too

c'mon we're not thick. If we dont want to shop at ocuk, we're all capable of listing of dozens of other places. Just because we've seen a link to a pre-order for the 40gb PS3 on that jersey retailer doesnt mean that OcUK is going to lose out on sales. We're grownups who are capable of making our own decisions about where we buy our stuff. THis policy does nothing but frustrate people who might genuinely help others

by all means, stop people from saying "x website has the 8800 GTX at ... price which is cheaper than ocuk buy now"

but dont treat us like fools.

I agree with this, but remember, most people are fools and idiots ;)

I agree to some extent but as its Spie's company, he, like me wouldnt like people talking about other places that sell products that OcUK does. Its like staff at my place saying to customers XY&Z is £2 cheaper at ASDA, go there instead.

We all know OcUK isnt the cheapest place but its the community and the service that make it what it is. I always shop at places that offer this instead of cheaper prices. I say keep the rules as they are for competitors. Its for the safety of the business.:)

Edit: I also believe we are not treated like fools but some people can ruin it for others if the rules are relaxed.

Re the competitor rules: if they are relaxed, perhaps having a single thread for the sole use of showing where people can get good deals on games can be created. Else we'll most likely find ourselves in a situation where ANY game related thread will be inundated with links to places to get it cheapest. Don't want that ta very much. :)

And MrLOL - I really don't think they're treating us as 'fools', just protecting their business. Nothing more.

Just thought I'd say this is the best day I've ever seen pass on these forums, that said I haven't been here very long compared to many of you!

I hope the fantastic atmosphere that the forum has had throughout today can remain for a very long time to come.

whoops, big image!

Although they've been said before, i'd like to touch on some that interest me the most:

- As mentioned, more avatars at different post counts.
I'd imagine that a good percentage of the forum is at over 1k posts now.

- Benefits or special features to higher post counts.
For example, PMs prehaps only being there for people who have 5k+?
And/or prehaps certain post counts gets you access to a private forum, prehaps the dons room? say 10k for read access, 20k for posting abilites in it?

- Under the avatars/post count/usernames, prehaps a drop down box for computer information? A few other places ive seen do that, and it would be a great time saver in troubleshooting threads imo.

- A few different colour schemes wouldnt go amiss either. :p

- The suggestions on the banned evidence being left in place as warnings/guidelines for people would be good also.
As would a 'wall of shame' so we know who/what/why people have disappeared.

Although being honest, i dont think nout needs changing too much how it is. So im not fussed either way. :p.

I have to say I agree.
I've been around here on and off for about 7 years now I reckon and it's great to see the atmosphere around here today with lots of old names returning.

Hopefully this is the start of a new era for the OcUK forums :)

On the old forum (before the upgrade) when you clicked a smiley it had a space before it so it kept everything tidier, can we have this put back in please? :)

Definatly the MM I would say. Stop all the people been ripped off.

Maybe have a shop area on the forum to allow people to comment in because without bad comments you won't improve as a business or be very rare indeed.

Also allow links too, because without links the forum is nearly nothing as it only contains OcUK talk, which once again could be good for OcUK finding out information to improve and enhance their business capabilities.

As Boom said above

- The suggestions on the banned evidence being left in place as warnings/guidelines for people would be good also.
As would a 'wall of shame' so we know who/what/why people have disappeared.

Just my thoughts.

Zefan have you been talking a happy drug today? lol

These forums are brilliant as they currently stand so any imporvements from now on will be fantastic.

More avartars would be a nice addition to these forums.

That's a fantastic idea and should be highly considered.

- Under the avatars/post count/usernames, prehaps a drop down box for computer information? A few other places ive seen do that, and it would be a great time saver in troubleshooting threads imo.

That would be very helpfull esepcially as BoomAM said's, when it comes to the troubleshooting threads.

- A few different colour schemes wouldnt go amiss either. :p

That would be a nice change to these forums.

Im not to sure how the Don's go about suspending and banning people but they seem to do a pretty good job of it. :)

DR access for me :p

Seriously though, I would like to see tighter moderating in the Consoles/Graphics Card forums but I guess that is discussed a lot anyway.
