OcUK Forums Changes

No, we've had the days of more moderators and moderation.
It was like having the Stasi on here.

The Forums are at the best they have ever been, which is why recent events and calls for certain members to be reinstated have left me baffled, as some of them were particularly unpleasant.

I was merely suggesting an idea that may help the games forums as the previous poster was complaining about something to do with it, I was just suggesting how to deal with the fanboys that whine on about stuff without sufficiently arguing why they think something is better. I wasn't talking about the forums on the whole :)

Absolutely, but the way to deal with "fan boys" is just to leave them to it.
As they get older they stop doing it.

Hence why I stated straight after the half sentence you quoted, that more moderation by the forum staff was needed to cut down on bickering.

but wait dude....there has been more call in general for moderation to be less strict!! So now you think it should be more strict?

Ok. go look in console forum. Lots of games which if you start to read you might think ohh this looks cool maybe i can buy it.... but no because its not coming out on your console.

A lot of the threads dont state for which console they are talking about.

And the forum is utterly dominated by Xbox 360 questions/discussions. Great if you like the xbox360 and own one not so great if you want to hear what people think about games on the wii or ps3 ps2 etc. You see what im saying?

Quick glance at the forum:

of the first 25 thread in the forum:

10 are xbox/360
5 are sony
2 are nintendo based
8 are non system specific

That's what I do, but unfortunately there's always people that fan the flames. It's a tough one to call regarding what to do with them tbh and I'm certainly not saying I have the solution because I don't.

And surfer I'll think we'll just have to agree to disagree as you seem to be just re-iterating your point and I'm getting to that point now too :) Admittedly I probably don't have the same problem as you do as I keep track of games on other sites as well so I tend to recognise a name in a thread and already know what format the game is for.

I'd hate to see the console section split. Especially as there isn't a problem with arguing about whats better anyway.

Its not like you have to read PS3 threads if you have an xbox. Occasionally I read a PS3 thread if I think it's of interest.

I dont see a real need to split it. No more than splitting motors to a BMW section and everything else ;)

OK fine then, which RELEASED games on the ps3 make the first 2 pages of the forum? Any of them??

lets see we got maybe Conan and Ninja Gaiden within 50 threads.

The xbox360 is well served but other consoles lose out because of the sheer domination and number of xbox360 users.

So being a ps3 owner yes i do see a need to split it but i can understand why you would not see a need because you're not affected. You're an xbox360 owner yep?

Thats because there are no PS3 Games lol :p

i wasnt complaining about it. I was suggesting an idea that would prevent possible arguments and fanboyism about it.

Just as an example rollins posted a thread titled "convince me to get a ps3" now this doesnt mean "which is better ps3 or xbox360" he wants to hear how good the ps3 is or its possible faults. He didnt ask anything about the xbox360

but lets see now:

this is the replies he gets

there's no way I could recommend getting a PS3 over the 360. Are you dead set against a 360?

really couldn't recommend the PS3 to anyone at the moment. Get a 360

and quite a few others reinforcing the above opinions.
I have nothing against ppl owning an xbox360 but this guy wants opinions on the ps3 not the xbox360

There was some sensible posts that helped him but the great majority were promoting the xbox360

Basically it then turns into a discussion about the xbox360 merits and how ps3 might be better in the future and might not etc etc.

Rollins already said he used to have a xbox360 and sold it. So why oh why do people just tell him to get another xbox360???

This sort of thing would not happen if there was a separate sub forum for Sony and Nintendo.

Yeah but thats only because right now there isn't that much on offer for it. In the past there have been F1 game threads and Heavenly sword (I think).

It can't be helped if right now there isn't much to talk about regards the PS3.

Anyway lots of the posters on there own both anyway. Myself I own 2 of the 3.

Kreeee who was quoted as saying the PS3 is a better bet owns both as does McDaniel.

If there was games for the PS3 they would stay on the front page of the forum, as enough people own both or more.

We are a small sub community over in the Console section and splitting us further wouldn't really help us much. Its recently that I have felt people have begun to realize each others posting styles and respect different views. The bickering has certainly become more of a debate and less of a troll fest (apart from a few occasional loose canon ofc). Presenting an overall picture of the console situation to new posters is one of our strong points there.

Also I enjoy Fanboys they spice things up, NINTENDO FOR LIFE! :p

Heavenly Sword came out after or round about the same time as Halo 3. Halo 3 is on the 1st 2 pages but HS is nowhere to be seen. Same with Warhawk its generally popular but its miles back hidden within the masses of threads.

But like i said its not a problem for people with an Xbox360. And as thats the most popular console on here then theres not much chance of this new division of the forum to come into affect because it only harms the majority if the forum splits up. It helps the minority console users but anyway nm then.

We get people like you in Motors, and its very irritating. I dont post in consoles, I dont care about consoles, but this is a DISCUSSION forum. People give their OPINIONS and the OP is free to ignore them.

He asked for convincing over the issue of a PS3. Now, if some of the people on that forum feel its a bad choice, they are perfectly entitled to voice that opinion. Thats what discussions and opinions are all about.

360 is very relevant to PS3 becuase its the major competitor. For all we know, he may not have considered a 360 and would be grateful of the pointer. He may not have realised how similar the consoles are. Or he might already know, either way, it provides healthy debate for people to read to get BOTH sides of an arguement.

If you want an ego massage on how great a PS3 is, post on a PS3 specific fourm only. If you want proper, honest opinions which you may not agree with, post in a general console forum like the one here on OcUK.

There are not many PS3 threads becuase there are sod all games worth buying for the PS3. Splitting the forum up would only make that even more painfully obvious to the PS3 fanboys.

Dude if you had read the thread the OP had stated he owned and is now sold/ is selling his xbox360 yet lots of people turn round and tell him to get another x360. Thats helpful aint it

Come back when you've actually read the thread.

Love it when people like you do this lol.....

If thats what their opinion is, why not? They are the regulars of that forum and presumably enjoy contributing to most of the threads. If their current opinion is that the best thing for the OP to do is to retain his 360, and that moving to a PS3 is a mistake, then why on earth should they not voice that?

I know it must hurt to see people **** off the console you spend £400+ on, and I know its a double blow for you as well what with having to cope with the fact there are about 4 good games on it, and each game costs a tenner more than the same game on 360 but really, accept other peoples rights to an opinion.

Exactly, those asking for ps3 advice or discussing the games on the machine usually have to endure the usual, " should have got a 360 " etc.

This is neither a proper response to the question asked and is completely unhelpful and can lead to people being called trolls, haters etc, forum conduct and responding to threads with relevant and helpful information are the issue here and if people would leave their own particular bias towards a system behind and only post what is relevant or helpful then a lot of the issues in the console forum would be averted/solved.

Sure it'll be their opinion but a) its biased and b) it doesnt help the OP
c) it ignored the OP's post and had no place in the thread.

If i ask the question "Whats good about the PS3" in a Console forum (NOTE this: its not an xbox 360 forum maybe it should be changed to that then?) i dont expect a plethora of answers to be "nothing - get xbox360 blah because that just screams xbox360 fanboy-ism to me.

And of course they are in the majority so their voice will be heard most.

Theres obviously more than 4 good games for it. Personally ive played Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, F1, Virtua Tennis and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. All of which i think are good games.

Could you provide your evidence that the PS3 games are £10 more expensive than the same xbox360 games. I honestly didnt realize this was the case. Thanks in anticipation of this information.

I guess if you cant provide this info then your talking out of your derriere bud. And i should just ignore your trolling attempts on this topic.

But yeah you might be right - just waiting on your info that im sure you're putting it together right now. :)

Well said. The OP did get a couple of good answers though esp from msmalls74.

Couldnt have said it better my self. I contsntly go in the console forum and see that type of post. It gets boring, very fast. And is in no way helpful to the origional question. And thats coming from a 360 owner.
