OcUK GUIDE TO ORDERING YOUR AMD 9070 GRAPHICS CARD TODAY AT 14:00

Newbie here managed to snag a Reaper 9070XT for MSRP but have seen that people tended to recommend and go for the Pulse (including myself but that was just because it was the first one I saw) which sold out immediately but the Reaper was still around for a short while after which is how i got one. Just wondering if there’s any particular reason why the Pulse is so sought after?

The reaper is the most basic out of all the MSRP card.

OCUK also scalping by hiking msrp £30 to £60. Scalping is illegal in Europe and North America. It is essentially extortion.
Youtuber Daniel Owen did expose vlog. ******, ocuk and AMD complicit in scalping and price fixing. This is illegal even in UK.

There is no price fixing taking place.

Even after months of stockpiling, initial demand for 9070-series cards exceeds initial supply.

Per the law of supply & demand, demand falls as prices rise, and prices will settle where supply and demand intersect. As nobody has any patience and everybody has to have the new shiny thing on day one, initial demand greatly exceeded initial supply. This drives prices up.

Fixing retail prices at MSRP wouldn't fix the problem. There would still be the same amount of supply of cards. And demand would still be the same (if anything, demand could be higher as the demand at £569 will be higher than at £629 or £679 and so on). All it would do is increase the upside for scalpers - the price they are buying cards for would be lower, and the price they are selling them for would remain the same.

The launch of these cards was already delayed by months, and this led to a stockpiling of supply. While it's uncomfortable to admit it, the problem here isn't the manufacturers, the retailers, or even the scalpers selling cards on eBay. It's us. It's this insatiable desire to have this new thing now.

Yes specifically went with my reaper for my SFF pc. Could have bought a new case but that's £100 extra minimum.

It also doesn't help the supply & demand situation when GPUs sell, compared to CPUs, for such a low price.

Before anyone jumps down my throat think about it; A CPU uses the same 4nm node as a GPU but the CCD is 70 mm² and sells for £300, the size of a GPU die is 4x that size but does not sell for 4x the price (unless you're Nvidia).

So if you were AMD what would you rather do, buy a 4nm wafer from TSMC and use it to make 166 dies that you can sell for £300 each, or 32 dies that you can sell for £600 each.

This is the same old strategy AMD has had for years now. The video below is from over 3 years ago.

If they want to double down on stupid, that's on them. So far, it doesn't seem to be working out too well for them.

They had the opportunity to make a real dent here, and win people over, even if it cost them more in the short term. Instead, they seem set on spiralling towards irrelevance. Doesn't matter how good of a product the 9070 XT is if you're not winning people over via pricing. The ironic thing is that AMD have played this game before with their CPUs, which were many times cheaper than Intel back in the Athlon days, and it really helped their market share going from iirc 10% to 28% at one point.

The thing is that these cards have been produced and supplied for months leading up to the MSRP reveal, so AIBs were probably charged more when they bought the dies months ago. It may be that prices level out once all that trickles through the supply chain.

So yeah the prices now may not be as heavily scalped as we may think. The rebates were probably to attempt to mitigate the early stock prices.

I dunno, I'm just chatting nonsense waiting for my Reaper to show up!
It would also depend on the exchange rate ect when OC brought them into the country

but they have still sold out worldwide with some sellers taking huge pre orders for when they are back in stock

OC for example sold every single Nitro+ model they could on pre order

compared to Nvidia who has under 20 5070ti at most vendors with some having no stock

Ordered late Friday evening thought I was getting free delivery not bothered now (as its arriving in the next hour or so) about the £7 extra. Great service from OCUK also BTW :D

Yep sadly lots of high value items in London get stolen from the doorstep before you get a chance to react so best to ensure your on standby to receive it!

Wow!! Was not expecting this to come today, it showed last night that they were expecting the package and I didn't think DPD delivered on Sundays :D not complaining ofc!

That's actually really fast since I ordered 8pm Thursday evening, all things considered with the volumes they had. Thanks a lot OCUK!

Time to UV and OC the beaut! (After a brew, of course!!)

Wish i got a sapphire pulse instead of gigabyte gaming oc, i assume because pulse has longer cooler its better. but i had to grab the first one available instead of chancing it and wait for pulse. but i guess i get one year extra warranty and i had the rarer MSRP model lol, 1/50 vs 1/300
