OcUK GUIDE TO ORDERING YOUR AMD 9070 GRAPHICS CARD TODAY AT 14:00

I still don’t understand how for most of 2023 and 2024 we were able to buy cards without much trouble for below msrp.

Why all of a sudden is there a surge in demand? There’s no crypto and I don’t think people are doing whatever with AI to make money in their bedrooms- I just don’t get where and why there is this demand all of a sudden- even in December I could log into any retailer and be able to buy a card easily.
people waiting to upgrade loads of people like me bought cards in covid

until now my 6700xt was fine and still was but I can get a 100% uplift on raw power its time to upgrade and it still had decent resale valve £200 give or take

so many people on 3060/6600/6700/3070 these are all 4 years old now and many on older cards

its the same with full system rebuilds the rest of mine is now 4 years and 2 months old

So probably next gen will be less demand I expect (UDNA/60 series)?

Maybe I’m fated to buy a reference UDNA X80 card after all.

AMD and especially Nvidia are now waiting for all the stock of the old cards to sell out before the new generation come out in limited supply. Nobody in their right mind wants to upgrade a month before new releases when prices had gone back up.

Those who skip a gen (and I think this is most people) before upgrading are now left with the choice of not upgrading, scrabbling around on launch day so they don't have to think about paying scalped prices, or pay scalped prices.

This gets asked on an hourly basis on every single thread by people who aren't looking to upgrade and have lost all sense of perspective.

It's got a lot to do with Nvidia really dropping the ball as well. I'm not sure the 9070 XT would have garnered anywhere near as much attention otherwise. It's been a good opportunity for AMD, and although I dislike how this has all been handled I do hope it pays off for them because we do need the competition. Same goes for Intel.

Well not the threads that matter mate.

Just trying to understand why everyone waited till now and didn’t upgrade in 2023 or early 2024 when supply was plentiful.

It would have been a smart move actually buying a 4070ti super or 4080 super even last summer.

This is true.

The 9800X3D had stock issues at launch as well, which was worsened by Intel just not showing up.

Because people who didn't need an upgrade in 2023, do in 2025?

It's only a smart move because you're saying that in 2025. People upgrading now can't buy a 4080 in Summer 2024.

That doesn't make much sense though.

For example, if people weren't willing to pay £800-£850 for 4080/7900xtx perf last year, why are they all of a sudden now?

Why not just wait a little longer for prices to get sensible again?

Exactly. Why the desperation now? A 6700xt/3070 can still play games at decentish fps. And why they can’t hang on a bit longer to see if prices stabilise? FOMO doesn’t explain it all.

Why are they upgrading now if there is little price/per movement?

I can understand people buying the 9070 XT at MSRP, or even the 5070ti, but why is there ANY sort of market for the scalped prices?

Presumably people didn't upgrade last year as the price/perf wasn't there....so why do it now when it still isn't there?

I've been wanting to upgrade my 3070 for ages. I built a new system over Christmas as I snared a 7600x for just over £100 in a flash sale. I promised my lad he could have the 3070 back in my old system so he could game on that rather than his laptop. I was close to getting a 7800xt or 4070 super, but the rumours of RDNA 4 being good made me wait. And wait I will until msrp is restored.....

dont know about the scalped prices but anything 5070ti/9070xt level under £650 was for me this time out expect I will keep it for years

and while the 6700xt can play games at a decentish fps I was starting to get the its time to upgrade signs in games

I don't know, I don't know anyone buying at scalped prices - but if you want a card, that's your only choice. Buying one two years ago as suggested is, oddly, not an option.

Again, what other option is there? The presumption was that there would be more price/perf in the new generation, which is why people skip a gen. It's only because Nvidia have given up and AMD are just targeting the midrange that price/perf has stagnated, and even then the 9070xt has offered an improvement, and it's literally the only product that has. So people are buying it.

I really don't get what's so difficult to understand.

not everyone knows about MSRP. I didn't. I am looking for a new GPU, luckily a friend of mine just bought their new one and sent me a link to this forum to get info on when the 9070XT will have more stock. I saw some for over £750 elsewhere, and honestly thought that was the price of them. until my friend told me otherwise.

Well if you were wanting to upgrade then yes but a whole army (literally tens of thousands) of upgraders at the same time? Something feels a bit off….
