** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

The first round on SC will be 50-60 units so clear this first chunk of the queue either Friday 10th or Monday 13th. Trying hard for Friday 10th.

Ben

@Ben, this is making me think about cancelling my order of 2 x FTW...

(EK Facebook) "Any chance of a block to support the EVGA 1080 FTW - are you waiting on the PCB layout or is it not supported and I need to cancel my order :). Waiting patiently to order two of them from you so hurry up and make them already :P"

EK Water Blocks "No plans for EVGA cards currently. Stick with other well known brands ;)"

What's going on there? Given a large chunk on here seem to be preferring EVGA its a little surprising EK don't seem to be interested in supporting... I want to stay EVGA loyal but there is literally no way i'm running SLI 1080s outside my custom loop. On another note - release date for the HB Bridge?

EVGA have already said they are working on waterblocks with other manufacturers

EK have had a falling out with them because allegedly EVGA changed the 980ti kingpin after they gave EK a sample, so the EK blocks didn't fit the final card and EK blame EVGA

I'm using core only blocks again this time anyway, as with so many phases, cooling the VRMs should make sod all difference

Good to know, the Phanteks blocks look nice and if the quality of cases is anything to go by they'll be well built - but as a first go i'm not sure they'll be supporting anything but the reference PCB. Would be good to know who EVGA are working with before I decide to cancel or not...

25Mhz core clock difference with slightly bigger cooler and more pins that wont help overclocking much more than SC.

Yea, puzzled by this. Got the specs but don't what the real world difference is between the SC and FTW.

Put money down on a SC but think might just wait till the dust settles on which overclocks the best (versus value for money)

Real world difference will probably be slightly lower temperatures and slightly lower noise, both of which allow for more overclocking headroom which is nice in addition to the extra power.

50 is very low, when I contacted OCUK they said they have 2000 on order from EVGA

50 units seems very low with all the preordrs, when will the next batch arrive and how many etc? If I am 140 in the queue how long will I be waiting? Thanks

it won't be long if you don't get in first batch then more stocks will keep come in everyweek like 980ti released .

Well if its 50 a week, then that is another 2-3 weeks after the 17th, which is already 14 days later than the original ETA.

I had it all planned out!

New X34a monitor and a GTX 1080, installed today and then a Witcher 3, with the new DLC marathon all weekend.

And it's all gone out the window now :(

My new problem is do I play Witcher now on slightly worse graphics or wait 2+ weeks (I'm 90th in the queue) and play on Ultra like it should be

Oh the First world problems :)

I just went to make a bloody coffee! oh well, SC ordered now...

My 970 can just about handle 3440x1440 for now...

Same boat as you brother, can't wait to crank the settings back up to ultra :p

For only £30 more you get a slightly better cooler, custom pcb, dual bios, slightly higher pre-set clocks, rgb lighting, and should get better overclocking once the custom bios's are out. Seems like a no brainer.

Hey guys! this is my first post here and will make my first purchase soon :) Which card would you guys recommend to someone who has absolutely no idea regarding card clock speeds, overclocking and other technicalities? I was going either for the EVGA 1080 FTW or SC, hell maybe the founders edition too now as all this waiting is killing me.

Thanks!

Given the prices of the three cards mentioned, the FTW seems to be the best value of the three. The SC is just a reference PCB with a twin fan cooler, so if going that route there are cheaper cards that might even be in stock sooner.
