OCuK L4D2 server rant.

Perhaps try joining now or whenever is most convenient for you, record the server, message, time and other players, as both Link and FrenchTart have said, in order to see what is happening. Either send the results to Link or FrenchTart or post them here.

Or try Psypher5's excellent suggestion t0 join a game with Link/FrenchTart/Defrag and see what happens.

If there is something coming up about VAC then perhaps you should verify your game files, you can do this by right clicking on the game under the games tab in Steam, clicking properties and looking under the "Local Files" tab. There should be the option to verify the files and to defrag the game cache.

I think this needs investigation.

IE: steam friend add to a few admins, and follow/accept an invite.

Tummy_forever < Steam ID. Feel Free to add me.

Sorry but I really doubt ocuk admins would be complete dicks, and we also have the main admins of the server saying what you explain is IMPOSSIBLE to do on their servers kind of makes me trust them more. Also you saying you can't be bothered to join anymore.... something fishy is going on.

I've been kicked / removed lots and lots of times recently, I only play on the OCuK servers to try and avoid idiots.

Something fishy?

You mean because I can't find a good server and as a result I can't be bothered to play?

Prove me wrong by all means.

The only jip i've come into on ocuk servers is when they are lobbied and have a reserve spot for someone, then its me who gives people who join hell! (in a jokey way ofc)

I try and join lobbies, normally the servers have a game in session, I'll join a game with the lowest players normally.

I doubt it's anything to do with my game files but I'll refresh them in the hope people might not remove / ban / kick me.

I'll be online tonight about 9.30 > onwards! add me Tummy_forever and I'll be up for a game.

Here's all (I think) the server IPs so it might be worth checking that you've got them all:

OcUK 1 – 94.23.222.136:29021
OcUK 2 – 94.23.222.136:29025
OcUK 3 – 217.163.30.155:27015
OcUK 4 – 217.163.10.204:27015
OcUK 5 – 94.23.222.136:29029
OcUK 6 – 94.23.222.136:29033
OcUK 7 – 85.234.148.165:27095

I think this needs investigation.

Hi, have you met midnight, Kearney, etc?

With regards random kicking, never seen it myself, but I'm always in pre-arranged/lobby games and everyone stays to the end.

Tell a lie, we were on the 8v8 last night and motorhead got the spec bug on the 4th map. Before he had time to rejoin after disconnecting to fix it, someone stole his spot. We asked for him to leave and then everyone vote kicked him off. He didn't reply so it seemed fair and Motorhead was trying to get back in.

Benefits of being on Vent when you are not in game, you can communicate these issues to others ;)

Sorry to highjack but is it mandatory to put ocuk tags on a server if adding it to the steamgroup? I've got a 4 v 4 I'm setting up that I wouldn't mind adding to the ocuk group, although maybe not exclusively.

Something's not quite right here, in my own words im an idiot, and I've never been kicked from an ocuk server, unless id taken a space and every time that's happened I've got a nice chat message asking can i leave please I've taken the spot of someone who's CTD

If anythings he's been joining the public ocuk servers. I've been kicked off there loads its the team not admins doing it as there not ocukers just random players.

Why is he "stealing" his spot? I don't get that.

Why is he "stealing" his spot? I don't get that.

Because Motorhead played from the start and was invited to the game.

He received a bug which happens to some people from time to time when you get stuck in spectator mode at the start of the round and are stuck on neither team.

He disconnected the server, with the intention of coming back straight away. He told his team, he told us on vent who were on the server at the time.

Someone else, un-invited or using an old invite I assume, joins the server and takes motorheads spot whilst he's trying to reconnect in. We asked him to leave, he didn't. That is stealing in my book.

"The intent to permanently deprive a player of his spot in game" :p

That's not though is it?

Motorhead doesn't "own" that slot does he? It's a public game and anyone can join?

It's just normally polite to leave and let them continue playing, but I don't think it is stealing his place.

Very strange thread - I know all of the admins and I can't imagine any of them abusing their power in this way - even Link, whose a power-hungry server-dictator :D

As for "stealing" spots - it seems pretty clear - people occasionally crash, lose Steam connection, or whatever - and they end up having to reboot or be missing for a short period of time - if someone else jumps in, then they should be politely asked to leave, only using a votekick as a last resort.

That said, there are a lot of new faces appearing in OcUK games recently (not a bad thing, I hasten to add) - with some rather odd names :) and some of them seem incapable of reading in-game chat (or playing very well :D) - having made that comment, I must add that I don't use an OcUK tag - so people probably wonder who I am too :D

That's the way it works on the OcUK servers. Obviously you don't have to use them if you don't agree with the rules though :)

Well, we do have a naming scheme that it'd be preferable that you'd stick to. We also have a few requirements in terms of making sure we all share the same admin lists + plugins (to a point). I'm sure Link will have more info on this as he's way more in the loop with L4D1/2 servers than I am atm.

if you were playing for 2 hours, and you got dc'ed on the last map, wouldnt you be mega annoyed if someone waltzed in and went "nah mate im playing now".

Fair is fair tbh, the player that drops gets higher priority than anyone else.

and lol knubje :P you know what i meant ;)

No, I wouldn't be that bothered. It's a public game. If someone takes your spot then it's tough luck. I've never seen in the rules that you must leave if everyone is telling you just because you took someone's spot accidently. It's all getting very cliquey and rather petty. I don't remember L4D being like this.

*Perma-bans Knubje* :D

To be honest from what i have read you have joined the 2 public servers in the OcUK group due to you stating 'i join the server with lowest amount of players'

99.9% of the times OcUK games will not have any slots free due them filling up so damn fast and we never start without full teams.

The public servers are a bit wild as there doesnt tend to be admins in there to keep control as we hate on the publics :p

L4D was always like this, but its just a bit obvious at the moment with bugs still in the game forcing people to leave and rejoin.

To be honest ive never seen someone kicked because of it, most players in the group understand the etiquette and leave once informed that someone has crashed out

Well then that your fault, if youd have asked to rejoin you would have got in..

It's only fair that you let someone finish their game, and I'm going form what i've seen/experienced during play with steve, midnight and the gang.
