Yeah lets show those southern softies where it's at (ok I am currently one of the said softies but originally from near Manchester so its ok).

Dates are weekend of June 20th/21st or June 27th/28th. Could we get a poll for these dates please?

Ideally would like to get some big climbs in, but since the UK doesn't have any (guffaw :p), the pennines will have to do! Not thought of a route yet to be honest, we can thrash that and make it user friendly when we know who is coming.

Frenchtart is kindly building me a brand new bike, but the numpty has it in the wrong size so I will probably need to borrow one, but I will also look at hiring one.

09:00, stockport train station, 20th June.

I'm going to be doing a ~250 mile ride on the Saturday of one of those weekends but I can probably work the timing out so that it doesn't clash.

I'd vote for the 27th/28th as the 20th/21st is more likely to be the date of my super long ride.

Route-wise I'd suggest meeting in wonderful Stockport and then heading out to Brickworks, Goyt, down towards Leek and back up through the Cheshire planes - perhaps with a quick jaunt up the Wizard near the end just to make everyone suffer that little bit more. Alternatively head NE from "Stockers", up to Holme Moss, south towards Sheffield then west and go through Edale. Happy to do whatever though.

I actually threw together an 80 mile route on ridewithgps the other day starting from Stockport station, then doing the brickworks, Macclesfield, cat and fiddle, Buxton, optional cafe at 40 miles, mam tor, another optional cafe at 60 miles, back past Chapel en le Frith, New Mills, Marple.

And yeah, I'd be game. Saturdays are best for me as I have church on Sunday but I can probably miss it just this once...

Oh yeah, and I only average 15-16mph at best so you'll just have to deal with it or drop me :p

I'm just over the hill in Halifax so this sounds good to me, neither of the dates do though :(

In London for Foo Fighters at Wembley the first weekend and my dad's up here for his 50th the weekend after haha.

In terms of who else is in the area...

minty is in Bolton but he's coming back from surgery and hasn't been on the forum in years
Stu in Preston whose forum name eludes me, but he's also coming back from injury after his off
Berger's not a million miles away from me, when he's not a million miles away in Aus :p

I'd hope that we'd basically stick together at a speed everyone is comfortable at - maybe do the whole "meet at the top of the hill" for the climbs though.

Sounds good, would be keen to get a Cat and Fiddle in, and optional cafe? Why is it optional?

I would have thought playful drops every now and again are well on course, but sticking together is the goal. Climbing though is obviously personal so yeah regroup at the top.

Afraid I can't be flexible on the dates. Bring your dad?

Here's the route I threw together the other day, to give us something to think about.

Just having a look at this. One thing I would say immediately is that the A6 near Furness and Chapel is hideous. It's more motorway than A road.

edit 1: Missing out Col du Mellor seems a shame too.

edit 2: I was reading the route backwards :p

(just airing thoughts atm - will suggest modifications after)

Personally I'd rather go through the Goyt and up the Cat and Fiddle from there rather than go into Macc too. Mostly because Macc itself is horrible and so is the road leading up from it to C&F. I'd prefer to do more climbing elsewhere. Maybe go NE from Calver in a loop through the Hope Valley?

The route into Macc there seems fine. I'd stick to the main road personally up the Cat just so it is the 'official' climb. Not been up the way on the map though.

If you're wanting to get the Cat and Hope in then that is roughly the kinda route you're looking at. You cant go too much further south without getting into silly miles.

Seems a shame to miss the Goyt out. It is lovely. But then the official Cat seems more of an iconic climb.

I'm trying to think of a plan that wouldn't involve me having to drive/train anywhere/too far with the bike.
