OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

Logged in earlier to find my front door destroyed and also my catcus farm, with the blocks still floating in the water by it so must have happend very recently before I logged in, asked on server who done it, would have been nice if someone had owned up.

Maybe your confused but the 5 block high wall around the whole of my area means stay the hell out.

Try bbhere?

To continue on from this and my previous post, I would really like to be a part of the minecraft community here and hope that I could be whitelisted.

I purchased pretty much my whole PC in components from OCUK a couple of years ago (when I made this forum account), but never posted as I didn't really feel the need to when I've regularly browsed the pc games section.
I have been playing minecraft for a month now (singleplayer), and can see no better place to start playing multiplayer minecraft than here.
I'd like to think I'm pretty competent in the art of building on minecraft ;) and I repaired a burning down house on server#2 yesterday, along with starting to build a boat today. Pics are on imgur if anyone is interested :) http://imgur.com/a/A9sAu

Added you to whitelist a couple pages ago?

I'm away on business for a couple of weeks so garlands being the nice chap he is will be keeping an eye on the server with regards to daily backups, server restarts and adding folk to the whitelist.

I'll be checking every so often whilst away so rule breaking will still result in bans/suspensions as applicable.

Kazz perhaps the dirt is only the initial structure, to be clad in something else? But yes it would appear on first glance that this would violate the common sense rule!

Server appears to have fallen over (No response on Clanforge for LiveControl)

Currently rebooting

Going to log a ticket with MP, just restarted. 0 players and 96% CPU usage.

I better be compensated for my diamond, iron ore and gold ore loss :mad::mad::mad:

You're playing a beta game, beta = unstable. It's not my fault the server crashes and unfortunately people can't be trusted to tell the truth about how much they've lost hence there is no compensation.

All part of what you signed up for when you bought a game in Alpha/Beta.

It is not my server I handed over full ownership to Windle 2 months ago.
I am a admin for 2 weeks only while Windle is away.
Sorry you think the admin is poor :( I have to ask why you still log on & play on this server ?
It is the players' responsibility to take care & pride in YOUR server if you want to be baby sat then I think you are on the wrong server.
To me the combined power of the 30+ players on this YOUR server that play the most is going to be far more powerful then admins if you keep a eye out on whats happeninig & whos on YOUR server. But I never knew until now that you wanted to be baby sat.
I would have thought that maybe the players would have taken it upon them selfs to have a look on the minecraft forums to see if theres a mod that replaces bbhere but again I never knew that you wanted it all done for you.
I guess that it's just me that takes some ownership of things I do as part of life.
This is one of the reasons that I handed the server over to windle as one member said when I left 'its a thank less job being a adamin'
I don't want thanks but then nor do I want to be told that 'its not our job to sort this out'.

Why are you so sure that its someone that has joined in the last few months ?
There are over 100 names on the white list it could be anyone, I had stuff damaged on server #2 when I had two 10 slot servers on the go, from that day I have not banned anyone so that person is still on the whitelist & can easy come back 3 months later & do the samething.

How is having more players moderating going to help ? do you need to have the title 'moderator' to do the job ? can players not just do that anyway on THERE server ? but then as I have been told 'that's rubbish' as it's not upto you as players to help yourselfs. Unless you have the title of 'Admin' then it all changes you all of a sudden become someone who cares about YOUR server. Only thing that a moderator could do is Ban players has this been needed before ?

Lysander I can send you the bbhere report for all the players & YOU could have a look yourself & help your self & YOUR sever but you will not want to as it's not your responsibility.
You just want to play, I will little you in to a little secret the Admins just want play games as well. Secret number two the server owner pays £24 a month so the forum members have a server to play on its a free service he & I use to offer.
Am I asking a little to much for players to keep a eye on THERE server ?

Can YOU the players not take pride in YOUR server ? & take on owership of the problem of stuff being damaged ?

Well I am sure I have said to much & left a can of worms for Windle.

Sorry I truly am that some of you feel that this is not YOUR server :(

Fully agree with you on this gars, it is up to the players to moderate themselves.

If you folk want to keep whingeing about it then I'll be reconsidering paying the bulk of the server operating costs, as Gar points out it's a thankless task. I get grief if the server crashes despite it not being hosting side but the crap minecraft BETA software. I get grief if the minecraft login servers go down and people can't connect.

If someone wants to grief then they arent going to do it when its busy or when people are near them. And how hard is it to check the server logs which have been mentioned on numerous occasions?

If there's been some damage and we don't know who then that would be an appropriate to use the logs to find out who the griefer is and ban them.

The logs are nearly impossible to use as they are absolutely massive. Each player has their own one and every single thing is logged, everything. With the amount of players we have it's an impossibility to track down.

Fur, other players with powers won't fix the problem as Gar has pointed out. They have to be caught in the act.

i don't think anyone is giving you grief about the server being up or down or mc.net being up or down. people are concerned that no admining takes place on the server, and the only thing WE have to catch griefers is bbhere which barely even works.

It doesnt show anything like placing lava, placing water, using flint/steel. and the records it does show are back to front, so the latest stuff goes flying off the top of the page. i'm sure if you told us what other logging mods are available to install we'd say "how about try that one?"

not a lot else WE can do.

Really? Then why is there constant "I can't login to the server, is it down?" when it's known that mc verification is flakey atm. Go back a few pages and I posted a reply to something else and instantly got someone quoting me saying "Windle, I can't connect".

There is limits to how griefing can be controlled. Whitelist helps but even longstanding players in the past have been caught as griefers so it can't even just be the case of removing new players.

As above, see the logs issue with regards to how it's nearly impossible for admins to track down griefers. Especially withthe number of players we have.

Until Multiplay switch to bukkit and there is a reliable version of it with support for bbhere type plugins it's going to be the way.

We could just make access to the server paid only - and because many more people would be paying, the monthly donation minimum could be reduced.

Windle/garsands, how many people on the whitelist are actually active? I'm guessing that it's more than four times the number of current paying members.

Reduce the monthly donation amount to 50p, which would lightly discourage griefers and also offset much more of the server costs.

Bearing in mind only 3 people donate at the moment, which whilst it's appreciated I suspect the majority of players don't wish to pay. It's hard to tell how many are active, i suspect only a quarter of the whitelist actually appear on the server now and again.
