OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

I guess a lot of it would depend on how much work Frenchtart and the other admins are willing to put into the move.

According to linktart, there are 93 members. Are all of these active? Would it be too much to ask for 1 copy/paste per player?

If everything that needs to be kept is dumped in one central area, stuff could be moved again once the new map is running properly and people have found better locations.

I couldn't give a **** what's happening. :p Don't make any effort for me lads. - Assuming you would.. :p

I banned you days ago fur :)

I think some people need to remember that the server is provided FREE of charge, Admins give up their own time to administrate it and keep it running. Technically we could have wiped the map without asking anybody.

The transfer is going to take time so it is likely that any projects copied will be chosen by the Admin team as a group as everybody will want all their little individual stuff copied over. However nothing is fixed, just bear it in mind :)

I would like this patch of land to be saved please.

Thanks.

True, true...... but we are also a community. I'm sure people would be willing to pitch in and help in any way they can. I'd be perfectly willing to sit there for an evening and copy/paste the co-ordinates of various people projects into a new land, if it meant we had a better place to play at the end.

Me and Siewwanlinda would love for our castle build island to be saved over as we've never actually completed something yet, would be really off-putting to loose another. I've had a good look through the cartographer a few pages back, but either it's because it's late and I'm tired or maybe I'm just daft, but I can't find it .

...just went back for 1 last look...found it, derp :D

Please try not to overreact...

Clearly there is room for negotiation, as always. There's no need to fly off the handle.

I don't think I was overreacting or flying off the handle? I was just stating that you're basically saying most of peoples stuff we'll be lost because it's not a big project/build. Too bad if you have 6 houses that you've built, you'll be lucky if you can get 1 saved.

I say lucky - because there's no doubt 100 people on the server will approx 5 buildings around the map. And there's no way anyone is going to do 500 copy/pastes, probably nearer 50.

I'm more interested to hear what will be done to stop things like this happening when we're on the new world.

It'll happen again cause the bigger the map gets the same thing will happen again, so it's either that or server costs will go up.

Personally I'd rather have my bit dumped right in the sea nearish to spawn with a fair amount of space left around it. I've got a lot of plans for how the area will look as a whole so I need the space to expand. Not a huge area though by any means as all my buildings will be tightly packed together.

People aren't going to want their big projects all together :p

Offering to move things across other then the spawn chest thing wasn't a good idea, everyone will want stuff moved.

by the close together part i mean the big completed projects like the pantheon or builds which have their "outer shell" done and just need the interior doing and landscaping but not to expand any more, would be nice to have them all in one pplace for people to look around.

So with all this discussion, is it not worth FT (or an admin) having 1 post that's updated with the names of the current active players detailing whether they want anything copied across or not??

From what i understand of the current map and the idea of the new map is this

Old map has corruptions in it with the exploring the map those corruptions get reloaded. and cause system lag and eventually crash and sometimes take a long time to reboot the server.
It can also be said that the issue may be with an add on but that too would be hard to find.

I believe one of the point that was made was that the land border would be set on the new map to prevent the issues of the old map. With the limiting of the border this should keep the map size down and less likely for map corruption.

Bad points in moving.
- we will not have all the builds brought over
- we will loose a lot of mats (TBH i don't personally see this as a major issue)
- I am sure there are many i am not thinking of here but it is early morning and i have not had my coffee yet

Good Points in moving
- Some projects can be brought closer together
- The community can work together in landscaping the builds that would make it.
- New resources will be nearer to all players.

Personally i think the move would be good for the community.
Having player projects closer to spawn would make it look nicer and easer for players to show off their builds. I see no issue with making villages around spawn and working on a transport system for it.

To show i am more than willing to move to a new map i would even forgo having my Build moved over but would ask that i could get a 300 x 300 or a 400 x 400 block area flattened and i will just start all over again. I will mine the mats myself if needs be. flatted at level 65 or lower if possible.

This will in turn set my project back by a lot but i am willing to do that to make the move easer.

Yes, we're going to get something like this sorted on the linktart site. We just need to finish a list of criteria (just to show that we're not going to pick 'favourites' for the transfer).

@yrth: That covers it quite well but we will also be able to do things such as automated cartos and it will help server stabillity and resource usage (once the map is generated).

@toString: Apologies. It was probably me overreacting. The new map will be using borderguard to keep the size of it within reasonable limits. We will also regularly be deleting one corner of the map "unstable land" to make getting resources easier without the map size getting out of hand. Map size limits are to be decided on but we're looking at 10k * 10k blocks, which could be expanded if needed.
