The server is down whilst I figure out what is happening.
As people seem to be ok with the idea of paying for a server then that's great. The difficulty will be setting the monthly payments at a level that means griefers won't be willing to pay it but aren't too steep. Extra payments from members also opens up opportunities to take extra guaranteed CPU/RAM usage from Multiplay which should increase the servers power and remove the lag issue.
Regards moderators, I'm open to suggestions on who would be a good moderator. They would be expected to intervent in player disputes, uphold the server rules and handle generating the cartograph. They would also have access to the server logs and be able to backup/restart the server as required.
I think a quid a month is fair, but you have to buy a years worth of access at once, meaning a 12 quid payment every year.
I think this is high enough so people wanting to come on and mess things up will be put off, and not too steep that people wont be able to afford it
And then, any profit made can be pumped back into the loop of LinkTart servers for more powerful servers and stuff
The only problem I see with this is keeping on top of peoples "memberships," what with everyone paying at a different time, which makes me lean more towards a one off fee, but then theres no on going support for the servers.
Which ever route we go down, I dont mind providing an extra pair of hands for anything
Again, just ideas floating around in my head
What ever is decided please don't lose what we have done on this server it's taken me months.
As annoying as it would be, if it has to be done to get things working, it has to be done imo.
The idea of a fresh new world excites me a little bit, though
