OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

While I am talking about the administration of the server, I do also think that some of the mods are a little pedantic. No offence, and I know you all have a job to do but in some cases it is bordering on ridiculous. For example, me and my friend needed sandstone for the community path from the spawn which we started. I decided not to take any from the beaches as it makes them look terrible, so we searched a little further inland. We found a large pit of sand near a massive castle, there was a mine next to this place that was claimed which presumably led deep underground. So we proceeded to take some of this sand from the pit, then Sylvet popped up and accused us of 'strip-mining' and 'griefing' the land of the owner of the castle which was destroying the landscape. We politely told him that the pit wasn't claimed, that we was removing some sand for a community project, that we had no intentions of taking any ore, that it was not ruining the landscape as the pit was already there, and that we had only taken about 20 blocks each! We also offered to return the blocks if he thought it was that bad. He then replied pretty aggressively threatening my friend with a ban if he did anything else and giving me a warning. He then proceeded to follow us for ages afterwards while we tried to find somewhere else to get sand. I was pretty offended TBH as I had put a lot of work into the community and was a trusted member- I see no reason to be treated like that over such a little thing.

I remember that, he was being a right **** about nothing. Talking to you like he was your boss or something. Some people need to get over themselves and realise its only a game.

blink was griefing with booshfan. being a 'trusted member' only makes it worse, imo.

I am surprised that sand pit next to a large castle wasnt claimed. Really, the entire grounds of the castle should have been bordered and signed so that no assumption can be made. At the same time though, it's worth thinking that a a pit of sand next to large castle may have actually belonged to the ower of the castle, whether it was signed or not. I believe rule two would applie:

although it doesn't mention digging, it should be treated the same as building, imo.

I understand that, and as I said, I wasn't there at the time to make an accurate comment. I still think that a permaban is harsh considering the amount they have put in. I have to stick by my gun with Lysander though- unless he was really offensive.

As for the sandpit, it was simply a pit of sand. As far as I'm concerned it was of no value to anyone otherwise it would have already been taken. If it was an open mine, of course I would have left it, however it was just sand which is why I didn't think it would do any harm to take it. It is mainly the reaction by the mod I am complaining about, I am not justifying my actions- what I did must have been wrong, but extremely mildly- and the mod started calling us griefers etc which I really don't appreciate.

Haha, I remember the little sarcastic comments you was making during the argument that he seemed to miss, made the occasion fairly amusing, if it wasn't for you- I would have been more angry! Thanks for lightening the tone ;)

Sorry to rant, but Minecraft is about building and mining, and just because someone put something up doesn't mean it shouldn't be removed when it obstructs a project as big as a town.

Just to touch this point, I don't think size matters. Any project be it big or small has the right to be there. It would be unfair to push out smaller projects to pave way for bigger ones (unless the project owner would gladly free up the space).

As mentioned common sense must be applied.

As I'm sure some people can confirm, any bans aren't given out at a whim and we give people the benefit of the doubt where possible.

Any sarcastic comments that were ignored/"missed" should be viewed as the admin in question being particularly patient. At the end of the day the person has been given the job of looking after the server and the people on there. If that means that they have to be short or authoritarian when talking to you then you really should just be polite in return and comply where possible. If I was attempting to sort out something and the player responded with sarcasm I'd be tempted to simply kick the player until they could deal with things in a mature way.

Lets get one thing straight, blinkvirus is the new guy to the server, ive been whitelisted for months now so don't start spreading **** around. I dont agree with being permabanned and would like to be put back on the server with the understanding that anymore foul play on my part will result in a ban, i really don't think its needed in this situation. I think the same thing goes for blinkvirus and lysander, one instance of bad behaviour should not warrant such a harsh punishment.

well what's done is done. I give my apologies for what i've done and won't greif again. i just wanna get back on the game and continue the project i was working on. i really dont think, however that the punishment given to us is fair. like i said, we should have at least received a warning or something.

First congratz on the position. I know you will do well and will be as fair a mod as the others.

Secondly I just want to say come on people a bit of respect to the admins and mods. There job is thankless enough without players going off on one. The support staff of the server have done some great work and have been fair in every decision they have made.

As Zumii said all projects no matter how big or small have equal status. If you want to use a space that another player is using it is common sense to talk with them and see if an agreement can be agreed to.

Lastly i just wanted to say a thank you to the admins for their work and having to put up with the recent crap. Just from me as a player i say thanks

I'm no admin, but my understanding as a normal player is...
Spamming chat and getting kicked was the 1st.
2nd, coming back and being annoying and making remarks again got you temp-banned.
3rd, discovery of griefing (breaking glass blocks in someone's tower).

How many do you want?

Rule 4. If players are found to be griefing (intentionally damaging other players property) then a permanent ban will be handed out

The best managers are those who don't appear to be managers. This goes for on the internet and especially in real life.

Those managers or admins who come across as 'authoritarian' just haven't picked this skill up. It's an unfortunate fact that, for a lot of people, being given a position of authority means big-headedness sooner or later. In order to enforce discipline as a manager you have to get people to like and respect you - for many this is either ingrained in their personality or it isn't.

Thank you very much indeed for the support on my own banning, but as I'm sure FT knows, I'm really not bothered.

i want another, because thats the list isnt it, thats everything you can name, i wasnt told that i was tempbanned, because that didnt happen, it was just an instant banned, thank you very much goodbye, so go ahead, keep listing reasons.

1. I never spammed or got kicked.

2. i never got temp banned

3. i tried to repair that damage but couldn't find the hole (giggity)

i really don't think this is any of your business tostring. i understand that our situation somehow affects the rest of the community to one degree or another. but you seem to take things a bit too far and distort things out of proportion a little bit.
You make a diddum into a dissaster and so I would like a mod/admin to deal with this pls.

As I mentioned earlier, I am not trying to have a dig at the mods, and I see where he is coming from. I just don't really appreciate being talked to like that over something as little when I answered in a polite manner and offered to return the sand if it was that much of an issue. The comments made were very light-hearted and was not there to offend either myself or the mod, just belittling the amount of discussion over such a minor incident. TBH, I thank him for his comments otherwise I would have been very angry and may have landed myself with a ban for being offensive to mods :)

Again, I think the mods are doing an excellent job, especially when dealing with the problems we have been suffering recently, and I thank them for making the server as good as it is. However I don't expect to be talked to like that when playing a game, that's all.

I would whole-heartedly agree with that, however in the circumstances it was necessary. It was not a project, more a random collection of object thrown together that probably took the best of a few minutes. It served no purpose, no one claimed ownership, it looked bad and was dangerous. It was also put up after toString built his house (I believe).
