Will the server be runing 1.4?

Looking forwards to the new map, though went out on the lash all weekend and forgot to put all my stuff in a chest. :o

Starting from scratch again. :D

last night was funny as hell, people TNT'ing each other, it was like playing worms, somone would be standing there looking at the damage then lol'ing at people planting TNT behind them,. Those Ghasts made scary noises.

Are they ever going to do anything about updates to the game not being fully backwards compatible with already generated map chunks? It seems to me that until they make the game such that new stuff can be made relevant to a fixed map like we have now, then we'll always run into the problem with conflicting demands on wanting access to new stuff and not wanting to uproot/copy everything again. I seem to remember this was an issue with the last map which led to a spike in exploration, but of course that isn't an option this time. We always seem to be one patch away from a game breaking experience. Wish they'd hurry up and finish the game ffs.

I can't see it ever being finished tbh. Notch seems to be out and about so much lately that very little gets done. More needs to be done on the serverside end than anything else because it is so poor right now.

The modding community seem to be having a better time, like the author of that Mo Animals mod, which has added a nice animal ecosystem to the game - whilst Notch adds...a wolf.

Think if I'd made as much money as him (for a retro beta of all things), I'd probably have a little more commitment to the project. Agreed, the modders show a lot more enthusiasm, flare and imagination.

Sadly not. The new map has already been generated in 1.3 (7500 x 7500) so Cocoa beans won't be in dungeon chests there unless they add a different way of making them yourself.

The new map will be up when one of the admin team say it's all done and ready. Might be this evening, might be tomorrow.

The game is in beta, with beta software you always have to be aware the next patch may well break whatever you have and developers have no commitment and no time to make sure patch to patch maps run fine normally.

Perhaps when the game hits retail they will make an algorithm that will insert new blocks into chucks that have already been generated, but that will be a post-retail thing, not during beta testing.

They always being beta will mean less updates but more refined/better tested updates. After the stats and achievements system is finished I believe they will be working on an actual modding API which will be a a godsend to Buckkit et al.

I believe FT will be generating new areas though over previous plain land so there will always be new resources there even if it is a smaller part of land 500x500?

as has been said repeatedly part of the land will be continuously deleted so there will always be new resources, and also new dungeons.

Not sure about 'repeatedly' but ok sounds good. So we could be searching for beans this week really.

Apparently there's a 3% chance a sheep will be brown, for those interested.

Just finished pasting all the smaller areas. Only the really large ones left to go now (Tefal's place, springfield, newfound land, etc).

Will be working on those after lunch.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that. Has it been said that part of the 7500x7500 region is to be the sacrificial area? If it was me I would add say a 500 block wide strip to one or more of the borders and keep regenerating that. That way you get a decent depthx7500 area to spread out in which fits in with the concept of not permanently exploring beyond the 7500sq central area.

Awesome progress guys, did you manage to copy my whole are or only my house? I'm just curious, and excited to play on the new map :D
