For me any dyno is always going to be best to show a 'before and after', on the same day, having changed something on the car.
Anything other than that is always going to bring about a lot of 'what ifs/buts' over the result.
Now the powerstation dyno is pretty damned good, its supposed to correct for atmospheric conditions (temperature, humidity) and running in a different gear as well (the run down losses will be different dependent upon gear used but the software is meant to average out to the same power figure).
Despite this, on different days, my car has shown the following results with the same fuel (BP Ultimate from the same petrol station each time), tyre pressures and oil levels checked to be correct beforehand, and with the same set of modifications:
201bhp - first run after getting the MR200 kit, run in fifth gear (Rich operating the dyno).
194 bhp - second run some time later, run in fourth gear (Andy operating the dyno)
190bhp - third run yesterday, fourth gear, again Andy operating the dyno.
Now nothing has broken that I'm aware of, the car feels largely the same, which does make me wonder whats going on
.
Yesterday I was waiting a long time outside idling before going on the dyno, I thought I was going after the Monaro but the audi quattro went first and I was sat outside idling for ages, so heatsoak may be a small factor in a low figure - but then does the dyno measure intake temp as recorded by the car and read back from the OBD kit, or does it just measure atmospheric temperature from a sensor somewhere in/near the dyno suite?
Now the more I think about I am tempted to take my inlet manifold off, to see if its getting full of oil gunk or similar! Mountune have come up with a revised breather setup since I had their tuning package put on my car, to try and reduce oil consumption due to the new inlet sucking more air/oil in from the crankcase. Cleaning the ISCV and throttle body would not hurt either.
Anyway, I said yesterday that I'm not going to run again, since I lose 5bhp with every go!
