I really enjoyed tonights game, admitedly i was really dumb to call what i called, but i wasn't that bothered in the end :D (after all i dont expect to get anywhere near winning until i have learnt more, and you could call the stupid call a learning experiance :D)

I don't know if i was just lucky tonight with a lot of hands or if im starting to use some of the things ive picked up on past weeks but i definately feel im improving considering i had only played 2 or 3 times before playing these sunday night games

Still don't feel anywhere near ready to play any money games though :p

Right, having had a discussion with Blackvault, we have been discussing a possible review to the scoring system. With the current system, say somebody who consitently placed around 11th - 15th, they would score at the end the same as somebody who say came last in every game, A slight flaw in my eyes. It was also been decided that they count the best 35 results, but even if they dont turn up for 10 weeks, would you just not count their 10 "0 results?

We therefore discussed possible scoring systems and an idea came about where points are bad, and you aim for the lowest points possible, where 1st gets 1 point and someone who comes 25th get 25. For somebody that doesnt turn up, they would get a number that is equal to the number of entires in the series (currently around 47). There would also be a discard system, where after every 4 weeks, they would not count their worst result, so if somebody didn't turn up one week, they wouldn't have to count the 47 points, and only count the reults for which they attended. Obveiously if they missed 2, they will get stung, but may act as an encouragement to join in?

This is based on a scoring system used in sailing and works quite well.

I have put it togeather with the first 4 weeks worth of results, and comes out as follows:

Well if your keen you will aim not to miss a quater of the games online, and hence the discards will take advantage of that. Its pretty much saying that every 1 in 4 games you get rid of a bad result?

By the time you have played for 3 months (12 games), you have the option to count out 3 of your results.

Or, the penalty for missing a game prehaps number of entries in that game plus 2, for example, 25 peolpe played, someone doesn't turn up that night gets 27 points?

For what its worth, I have played about with last seasons results to look how they changed (only changed first 15 results...)

What it shows, is that somone who turns up to 8 of the 15 games can no longer come third, and that you don't actually have to win all the games to win (1st place didnt actually win any, but was just very consistent...)

Now, over to you :)

I like the current scoring tbh, I know what you mean about the last and 11th getting same points but take formula1 for example, the same happens there, poker has always been known as a 'final table is an achievement' sort of game and that's where the money is in the pro games. If you wanted you could still discard the worst finish out of 4 weeks, so if someone finishes 3,2,6,4 then they lose the points for 6th place. Still leaves room for people missing a week/poor performance.

Having one point between each place doesn't offer the incentive to go for the extra places like the current scoring does, 10th and 11th have 3points on offer & people will have to make sure they are playing to win rather than scraping through.

Blackvault wanted me to post my suggestion:

If you miss more than 20 games (or whatever the difference between the number counted and 52 is) then you get a point, or maybe 2, deducted from your score for each week you miss. So for example you play 30 games, you've missed two and you should lose 2 points (one for each) from your main score. This would bring a different perspective into the scoring enabling higher scoring players that miss more games than lower ones to be brought down a little bit. Also the current scoring system is good.

Why would you want to bring high scoring players down? Haven't they earned those points?

They're already handicapped by the fact that they've missed games...

Plus you're giving people penalties for not making it every week when the whole point is to attract players, by giving them a bit of slack with appearances they may turn up 80% of the time, if they think they have to be there 100% or lose points they may lose interest altogether.

damn you and your minority browser :D

i've been playing with the stylesheets. will have a look see later whats going on.

I know the password etc. It's just that I can't click the button to logon. I had to press enter, also the section heading, once in that area have disappeared.
