OcUK Poker Thread.

To be fair the guy was a fish. I wasnt about to allow him to see with Turn or River for cheap lol.

But then you folded a pocket pair for decent pot odds and would have flopped a set. :( EDIT: Just watched it again, trying to work out what the other two had... the guy that won the pot maybe AK, KQ, KJ or something similar? And the guy that folded after the flop maybe QQ/JJ/1010 and he was scared of the K?

I'm just jealous because I have to write my dissertation at the moment so I'm avoiding entering any tournaments tonight. :p

Anyone just getting into poker or wanting to brush up on the foundations of their game, came across this site today which is excellent for learning the basics, quite interactive too.

www.pokerschoolonline.com

It's run by PokerStars but you can do it all free, as well as taking part in tournaments/leagues for free too, so it seems a fun way to learn.

We have been running our local poker league now for over 4 years, we have over 50 registered players though only get an average of about 16 a game, among the players we have a WSOP final tabler, one that came 2nd in Sunday million for a 6 figure sum and several other with 5 figure wins behind them, looks like they just aren't good enough though :p

the ponts scoreas are in reality cash amounts based on a £30 buy in

No luck, out ~20,000th. Over 100,000 entrants and it paid to about 15,000 so a bit annoying, made a stupid pre-flop call with 77 when I wasn't under much pressure to do so and was too crippled after that hand to recover.

Having just played,y first bit of poker with mates on holiday for fun, I'm interested in learning play. Is there any books you can recommend for a beginner?

Just read the beginners question FAQ on 2+2, then the stickies in the relevant forum for the game type you want to play.

Harrington on Hold'em

This is what I used;

I'm a bit rusty though - Need to shape up and get back on it. Provisionally booked in for Vegas in June, though I don't be playing any where near high stakes, I will hit the poker tables reasonably hard! Bring it on. :)

What would people say their biggest downfall is?

I'm pretty sure I play too many hands. I'm really new to Poker, only played the first time evry a couple of week ago on holiday. Installed pokerstars and started playing with the free tokens. However it all seemed pretty unrealistic with people going all in on most hands.

So I deposited $10 and have been slowly losing all my money on the $0.01 tables! Is there a way to see how many hands I play on Pokerstars?

I would recommend watching some High Stakes Poker on YouTube. You start to get the idea of when to play and not to play hands and you learn from the best.

I did some reading too, but watching the best play is fascinating and it definitely improved the way I played too. Tom Dwan is my favourite, the range of hands he plays are awesome.

I would advise against this for a beginner.

I would research starting hand requirements depending on what position you are at on the table. Once you get an understanding of these then you can be a bit more creative with other hands.

I think I let things go too easily on the river sometimes. I'll have a decent hand and someone will make a big bet that I know is probably a bluff or them chancing a small hand, but something inside me just won't let me commit unless I have anything better than a straight. That probably costs me a bit.

Some of Dwan's bluffs have been very impressive, he's very entertaining to watch. Makes a refreshing change from all the videos of Phil Hellmuth exploding, anyway... :p

I've signed up for the Saturday Splash on PokerStars this weekend. Haven't played a tournament for a while, but I did make it to the final table on the last one I played (couple of years back now), so hopefully this will go reasonably well. :D

Running like Usain Bolt in the ISPT sats

Won a Day 1 seat in a freeroll

Played a 3 euro feeder to a 200 seat megasat with a free entry that all online players get and won a megasat seat in that

then played a 2 euro feeder for a megasat seat and won that too

total invested 4.20 euro and I had a day 1 seat and 2 megasat seats :D
