OcUK PREPARING A 290X DEAL TO BLOW ALL OTHERS AWAY!

given the value for money increase brought on by a new process node in 12? months time and the uknowns on how DX12 might affect the state of play...buying a cheap/old gen card now (if you have to buy now)..seems a better bet...i wouldnt spend £400 on a card with a process shrink 12 months away..

Who cares about what may come out in 12months time

Didn't they fix the heatpipe thing? I seem to recall the early ones may have used repurposed Nvidia assemblies?

Not sure, i do seem to recall they put out a load of bs saying something like they ones not fully contacting were only secondary heatpipes or some crap along those lines. The matrix is meant to have a copper piece that covers all the heatpipes and contacts the gpu so gets full contact with the heatpipes by that.

Nope, they are are still like that, only the middle 1 of the 5 heatpipes making proper contact with the chip.

Matrix is exactly the same way, unless they have started installing the said copper plates very very recently.

So tempting, the Matrix one looks awesome, this has made me question my original plan of waiting to see what the 380x and 390x are like.

But if the 390x has close to Titan X performance then it could easily be £500+ which is a lot of money and I'm not sure about spending that much..

I also noticed that there are less 290/290x cards for sale now, are you clearing out stock OCUK?

Decisions, decisions..

Plus with the new gen cards coming out next year that's also a factor..

Ahh damn..

I think the cooler is actually quite similar on them both.

The ROG has other improvements, such as an additional molex connector and improved 14-phase power.

I don't really get the difference between the two, can anyone explain?

The coolers look the same, to the eye, and they are clocked at the same speed. What would the extra £20 get me, besides looks?

It's okay I'll be the fall guy... "I robbed you whilst you had your card in the ATM "

Thanks a good plan! :p

Direct CU I don't like never have done, now the ROG is looking good but then you into 970GTX prices so am not so sure.

Looking around I think all the 290x`s will come down ready for the 390 etc.
They all EOL to make way for the June release.

Hmm decisions decisions?

I can get a better card for the same price elsewhere but I don't get haribos with them. :(

The cooler is not the same, the heatspipes are different/thicker, the matrix has more power phases and higher quality chokes etc, a LN2 mode to defrost it and other "overclocking" features.

Cheers, had to differentiate between the cards as there was a £20 difference

I don't tend to OC my GFX cards so the £229 Direct CU might just be the ticket & with a 3 Year Warranty im pretty happy
