OcUK Rolling Road 9: Photos + Graphs

Oh yea, I almost forgot, thanks to both MrLol for the ride in his Vectra VXR and to Confused for the ride in his Legnum VR4 and thanks to Invader for organising everything :)

The Vectra can really move I'll give it that, and has very good seats, with all it's active suspension trickery on, it did not seem to understeer as badly as the press made out at all, it did seem to have a very, 'sledge hammer' feel to it from where I was sitting compared to my own ST220 though, very American actually.

The Legnum was more surprising though as the Vectra is more powerful and was only 2 up when I went for a ride in it, the Legnum however was 4 up and to me, felt faster, it just seemed to pull with a vengeance right across the rev range to ..well ...you know, naughty speeds!

I noticed this too, playing with it on the motorway, they felt very similar in acceleration terms.

But the legnum was very definately more keen to rev and ripped through the gears quicker than mine. Whether this is down to the twinscroll nature of my turbo or what i dont know. but they are very similar in power / torque and weight, but the legnum ripped through the rev range noticably quicker on the dyno.

Just hope that ive prooved once and for all now, that the vectra is not the understeering mess that top gear made it out to be.

We've had this discussion - find me something 200bhp, turbo and cheap and I'm yours :p

Andy's 400 on the RR

Dont suppose you video'd mine did you ?

Awesome, thanks for posting the video Matt. Have sent you an e-mail.

For anyone waiting for the vids, I won't have access to my main computer until tomorrow but will get working on them then :)

Do you guys want one large video or a small video for each car?

Bet it was a bit of a trek for you MrLOL! Worth it to silence the non-beleivers though I bet

was good to meet everybody as well

and was interesting to find the graphs for my car as well. Its interesting to note the effect its had on the car, its got 10lbft extra from somewhere, and its pushed the peak torque and peak power further up the rev range.

The drop off compared some other vectras isnt nearly as noticable.

Some peoples power starts dropping off at more like 5500 rpm, wheas peak power at mine was at 6000pm. But im investigating how much of that is down to the fact the RR was done in 5th.

All of the runs... apart from yours :o :(

Stopped the camera after my run and was outside for a little bit. Didn't realise until you came off the rollers. Sorry :(

Heh, no probs fella :)

I should have brought my camera with me.. didn't even think about it until I was standing watching the cars run :p

Looking at the graphs the legnum has 20% more torque at the start of the run with what looks like overboost at only 2200revs and no doubt shorter gears which is probaly what makes the difference. The initial burst of torque will give the kick into the back of the seat. It also looks like the legnum was run in 4th and yours in 5th on the dyno.

legnum was an auto

could have been any gear ! that torque converter was what caused the massive torque spike at the start of the map, its 'cos of the auto box and should be ignored.

Gutted i didnt manage to come and run the scooby but i was hungover and very tired from yesterdays drinking session and decided to make the most of silverstone and stayed for the days racing. Anyway i will look forward to the next one
