OCUK Rolling Road Day 11 @ Eurospec (Guildford) - Sat 19th March 2011

The video was retracted because despite us saying "who's going to care, it was a year ago", it became a worldwide hit overnight with everyone slating Darryn as the biggest chav and worst driver in the world, and he's certainly not the 1st of those things.

Fair enough, sounds like a good reason to take it down.

OK so depending on what the plan is, i.e. whether we're just going to go for a drive after all the RRing is finished and then find somewhere to stop or if we're going to go to a pub after and eat (depending on what time we finish)..

If the former, we could always just do this route http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&s...1.274159,-0.695572&spn=0.171825,0.308647&z=12 and then park up on the Eurospec industrial estate again, and do passenger rides and the usual chatter etc.

I went and had a look around and hooned the above route this morning and it's good fun.. A few slow bits through villages but Pirbright Bends (I hope your brakes are good ^__^ ) , and the other faster bits, make up for it. There's appears to be ample room on the industrial estate to park etc, and you can go left or right out of there for a fast road for passenger rides, direction depending on how twisty or straight you want it :)

I didn't get a chance to go to the Jovial Sailor and see just how spacious their car park is in real life, but will at some point, and also the hotel mentioned previously in the thread.

Other opinions / options obviously welcome, I just thought I'd start the ball rolling towards planning it!

I hope it's not too twisty and up and down though, my car starts to feel distinctly out of it's element when you try and press it into that kind of thing too quickly, kind of like trying to sail the QEII down some rappids. Looks ok from the map though.

Personally I won't be going anywhere near the Pirbright bends. They have killed many people and I've written off a car there. Having 40+ people hooning around there is asking for trouble.

Whilst I understand your sentiment, its just a set of roads.

It's not like some dark entity is there waiting to claim your soul.

People just need to remember to drive sensibly and within the limits of the ability of them and their car.

Yes I understand that, and I have driven a long them no problem. What I'm saying is that 40 people all meeting and going for a sporty drive is asking for trouble. Its a situation where people would be most likely to push themselves, whether trying to impress or not. I believe physiologists call it 'Risky Shift' I.e people in a group tend to take things to more of an extreme.

Certainly not saying that people can't hold there own but am saying it MIGHT not be a good idea.

It'll be fine. I'll lead if desired to set the pace, and with that many people it won't be possible to get to 100mph between the bends anyway. They're not THAT bad, you just have to be prepared for some nice sharp bends. They're good fun if you do it sensibly and don't take the wee wee. If people keep their distance and drive smoothly and to their own abilities and treat it as any other unfamiliar winding country road, nothing will go wrong. They have their 'reputation' because chavs like to tool along there way too fast in their shopping trolleys and if you do that you'll just end up in a ditch or a tree.

Are the roads a bit more car friendly than the last meet we had down that way where the roads were only wide enough for 1.5 cars? :p

Yes. It's handy that the road outside the industrial estate is a nice fast road, good for passenger rides. But as I said it's up to ScoobyDoo as to what he wants the day to entail, etc.
