OCUK Rolling Road Day 9 - Its booked!

whats humerous is asking modern day kids for half a pound of stuff at the market etc..

they havent a clue what we're on about The current generation of 18 year olds appear to have grown up with kilos etc.. and dont bat an eyelid at it.

Somehow I dont ever think asking for 568ml of Stella will ever catch on with the youth of today though...

We are stuck in a mixed measurements world, where people want there distances in meters and miles, want to order their beer by the pint but wine and spirits by the ml, their speeds in miles an hour or meters per second, their height in feet and their weight in stone, and their cocane by the gram and but their weed by the 8th...

It's nice to be a passenger for a change! I'm always driving my old man and friends around. I can be a bit of a bad passenger sometimes, hope you didn't notice me pressing my imaginary brake pedal :o I do that for some reason, can't figure out why

I have that problem I always annoy drivers because as a front seat passenger, when we come to a T junction I always look left at the same time as they do, and if it's my GF driving, I lean forward in order to do a mirror check at the same time that she wants to do a mirror check and then my head is in the way.

Other thing I took from this meet. Fox is a lot younger than I expected, about 10 years younger. :D

I always look at junctions etc if I'm a passenger too! It's a wierd reflex I guess.

And you're right, I didn't realise fox was only 13 either until I met him. I had him down as being at least 24 ;)

Hehe yea, that's exactly what I do. I grew up very much with both measurements, and they get mixed all the time, as you say. I don't really use yards much, I use metres, but I hardly ever use kilometres, I use miles, yet I use inches and centimetres/millimetres (depends which I deem most suitable really). I use pints and litres, although for a smaller measurement I tend to use millilitres rather than fluid ounces. I use stone, pounds, ounces and kilograms and grams, again, depends what I am measuring really. I've noticed you only really have to go about 6 years one way or the other and it changes to almost exclusively metric or imperial.

So far what I have worked out is, if you are 18/19 now, you probably use mostly metric, except for ordering a drink I imagine and perhaps measuring your weight and height. If you are 32+ you'll mostly use imperial. If you are in your 20s ...upto about 30, you probably use an unfathomable mix of both (at least to a foreign observer, so I'm told).

i fall into the unfathomable mix of both camp.

I like my pints, feet, pounds and miles, but then again im quite comfortable with metres and litres
