OcUK Ryzen 2000 series review thread

Very nice low down on how important low latency RAM is in this review.

It's staggering how much extra performance can be had with significantly tighter timings. OK, it's not a full review, but it's a kind of review :D

Im looking at a pc build soon, you can see my specs, i have a 12 core Xeon, i run at stock speeds which is 2.8ghz. Im looking at a 2700 or 2700x as i want the build to last me at least the same 8 years this one has, that CPU i feel could last me that time as its fast and 16 core, having not used a modern CPU do you think i would see a nice boost in performance day to day? Have the processors improved a lot since 2010 sort of era, i know my CPU was a beast back then but unsure how it has aged.

You'd see a massive boost for sure but you could achieve roughly half that same boost by simply overclocking your chip. They can reach 4 GHz easy and should do 4.4+ GHz on air depending on how high you're prepared to push the voltages. The chips are only £30-40 though so not much risk there.

Yeah, somewhat oddly Ryzen has higher rated stock RAM frequency, even though in reality Intel chips usually handles much higher RAM speeds.
